It's easy, and only takes a few moments. He was indeed officially released yesterday according to Pro Football Weekly's official transaction wire. Not sure why he could practice yesterday then. I guess Belichick only meant he wasn't released on Monday w/ TBC.

NFL Transactions Report
can we get an "And he actually wasn't" edit?
NFL.com is not the official NFL transaction wire in any way, shape, or form. It's just someone on the NFL web staff following transactions around the league. Believe me, I follow these things closer than I let on.
ProFootballWeekly.com has the ONLY official NFL transaction wire on the internet.

Where does it say that ProFootballWeekly is not on the official provider of NFL transaction information, but the exclusive provider of that content?
I do agree that they have a history of being more accurate than other sources for that information, but I'm skeptical about them being either the 'official' or the 'only official' source.

Please point out, where ProFootballWeekly, which describes itself as a Fantasy Sports Magazine, says it has the official Transaction list. I don't see that anywhere on their site. I don't see anywhere that the NFL states that ProFootballWeekly has anything to do with being the official transaction list.
As it is, I'm much more likely to believe THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE NFL, THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, and THE OFFICIAL HEAD COACH OF THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, over a fantasy rag.
Apparantly Pats1 is not the official source for information on who the official source for waivers is.So is it safe to say then that Pro Football Weekly is the best source for transaction information, and that it has a history of being the most accurate, and most up-to-date with this info? But at the same time it is not 'official' in any sense as it has never been named by the NFL as the definitive source of this information?

But you don't actually know that, you suspect it from years of personal experience. I don't doubt that you're right, but when you declare something as official, you need to get it from the horse's mouth.I'm not sure that's how I'd put it.
I agree with the first point, but as to the second, it is official. But it's not PFW itself that's official, it's simply the transaction information, which PFW gets directly from the NFL. Not even NFL.com gets it directly.
So in a sense, without actually naming PFW as their official transaction outlet, the NFL has made it one over its own website.
