Obviously alot of contract management is to try to stem any downside impact of upcoming CBA changes. I think the Pats management along with other owners are planning for a big showdown. I cannot forsee Pats committing large contracts to anyone until resolved.

The negotiations are going to be Brutal as new Union head has Washington DC's ear and will threaten with anti trust legislation. Lockout probably better than 50-50 chance

But with the economy the way it is, I cannot see never ending salary increases or the NFL will wind up like GM.

You want to lower ticket prices and salary just eliminate the 50% Travel and entertainment deduction and corporate boxes will be empty.

The salary cap (and floor) is a set percentage of NFL revenue. The cap(and contracts) keep going up because NFL teams keep making more money.

Autos, banks, energy, healthcare, pro sports, college sports...etc etc etc....This is not a trend, these are facts. Congressmen, Senators, and the Executive Branch have weighed in on all these industries ( and sports is big business) just in the last few months. Football and Congress are intertwined, that is fact. Pretending that that the federal gov't will not be a factor in these negotiations is naive. The two have been adjoined in the past and will be in the future.

The NFL will never wind up like GM. GM does a horrible job at competing, the NFL does not have to compete.

Do you dispute the trend exists, or the conclusion that its existence may signal an involvement here as well? He also didn't say there are going to be, he said he wouldn't be surprised, which is a large difference in the context of your reaction.

I'll say it ...THERE WILL BE BACK ROOM DEALINGS...and they have already taken place. DeMaurice Smith took a large group of player reps into Congress recently for a series of meet and greets with various reps. The back channel process is an ongoing reality. So let's stop with this PC crap and accept the truth...football and politics are not mutually exclusive.
