Florio starts to rake up controversy with respect to Pats moves

Florio is just pissed because despite his law degree he was too stupid to figure out something that required little more than common sense and rudimentary understanding of the cap and contract rules to deduce... You would think a guy making a living off a football website and paid radio gigs as some sort of analyst might bother to grasp the fundamentals one day...

He created his own site hyping scenario, the Merriman dollar matchup trade, because he doesn't understand the cap or this team and all he really cares about is generating hits. He knows anything Patriot related does that. He's such a little opportunistic fraud...

Why would the competition committee close a loophole that no longer is even relevant. That is, if they even could close it since it is probably part of the CBA and not the NFL rules,

How long before Senator Comcast becomes involved and demands an asterisk next to all the Superbowl wins?

They'd have a hard time with the Union, I would think, because the 'loophole' is based on giving a player his release and freedom to make any deal he can while guaranteeing his salary if he gets no deal at all.

And the purpose of using the loophole is to INCREASE the player's salary by giving him a better contract. Yeah, I can see the Union agreeing to put a stop to that...

It isn't much of a loophole if you think about it. To use it, you have to cut the player. He doesn't have to sign with you if he doesn't want to. He can sign with anyone he wants or no one. His original salary is guaranteed.

Patriots take all the rist, not the player.

He already tried that to no avail.

He's now back at work on the magic bullet theory.

Florio is OK at times..good even at times but then, he acts like some hole and I just think people should call him out on it..I have written him back and forth and basically called him out on the details one time..and basically showed his bias..BUT NOW..with more pub..he would not stoop to answering e-mails that much..BUT I would send e-mails and rat him out..thoughful ones to a point..He basically like to churn things around sometimes..MORE than other times..

Belichick knew he was taking a slight risk that either or both players would decline to honor their handshake commitments to re-sign. So why acknowledge publicly that Alexander was available to a higher bidder?

yea, florio has BB all figured out....i mean, what team in teh NFL is NOT actively after the greatly coveted Eric Alexander

I like how he tries to suggest that he finally figured it out.

No Mike, several people pointed out you were wrong.

There's a massive difference

Florio has a lot of responsibility for feeding the internet hysteria today, and because there was no deal for Merriman et al.. he cannot say he f...ed up, he has to blame BB...

Can somebody provide a synopsis of the article? I really don't want to give the jackhole more hits than he deserves, and without the synopsis, threads like this will only encourage him.

Despite Florio and company's terrible track records on rumors and predictions, football fans devoid of critical thinking will continue unabated to read them and post their random blatherings with baited breath.

It seriously frosts me that so-called professionals not once but continually post trade, etc. rumors that are basically impossible from a salary cap standpoint. It's not like this is the 1st or 2nd year we've had the cap. Felger's "Nah, nah, nah, I can't hear you!" attitude towards the rare caller bringing up cap realities really pisses me off. Wickedly.

Has another team used the Release and Sign strategy before?

Can't pan on Florio too much here. The moves were very odd and worth taking note of, even without a lot of facts coming out of the front office.

Why were they odd? They only seem odd because of the 24/7 baseless speculation.

If no news came out until today, and that news was "Patriots release and then re-sign TBC to 3 year deal". Would it then still be odd?

Odd because it seems no other team did it. And yes, releasing and re-signing is odd to me. How many other teams did this or have ever done this?

No team traded for a big name guy either, would it be "odd" if say next year there was a huge blockbuster trade at the deadline?

It's rare due to the risks involved and unique timelines/situations required to make it necessary, but I wouldn't exactly classify it as very odd. Of course at this point it's just semantics.

But Florio is still a damn moron who is simply trying to generate hits by trashing the Patriots. I had a feeling it would come to that after all the ridiculous speculation by him.

Well, in about 10 seconds of looking at the transactions list on NFL.com, I can see that both the Jets and the Redskins did it in the last 3 days.

Of course, and that isn't news. Only if it discredits the Patriots is it (newsworthy). (Florio isn't exactly NEWS anyway)

(EDIT)

The comments are rather amusing. "Move along, Florio, nothing to see here"/"SYFPH, Florio" are outrunning "F*** the Patriots" by about 5:1. :)
