Can we assume Sammy Morris won't be on the IR?

I think the team would have put Sammy on the IR by now if his knee was more serious than we think it is

Hopefully Sammy will be back soon since practice has come about and no sign of making any more roster room for Sammy's spot so far.

I would also think that the team would have tried to trade for a good and affordable but not spectacular RB by the Deadline if Sammy was going to be sidelined the rest of the year.

Didn't he get hurt 2 days ago? Today is the first day of practice. They've still got 2 open roster spots.

So no, you can't assume anything yet. If those 2 rosters spots get filled, and he doesn't get IR'ed, then you're probably right.

AD eventually went to IR in 2008 6 weeks after breaking his arm. So, no.

Long term you can't assume anything. If the running game looks good but another position is hit by injury, at any point they could decide the roster spot is more valuable to them than Morris's future. Same thing for Fred Taylor. How well they are recovering figures in, too.

Morris got an MRI yesterday at 12:30pm. He went in on crutches. I think it's safe to assume not only is his season over, but his career in New England as well, and possibly his career in general. He's no spring chicken, and the injuries are mounting.

Source?

My wife works in the same building, so whenever there's an injury I tell her to be on the lookout for giant black SUVs with MA plates on them, LOL. Sure enough, she spots the players hobbling in.

How can it be safe to assume anything without knowing, you know, the results of the MRI?

It's JMO. He's not young, he's got an injury history, and the knee is kind of important. I don't think we'll be seeing Morris or Taylor back.

Nice call.

Belichick on Sammy Morris: "If the player wasn't going to be back, he'd be on injured reserve."

Ian R. Rapoport (RapSheet) on Twitter

Yeah, 'cause Belichick always tells the truth. If he said water was wet, I'd have to get a physicist to verify it.

I just can't see him keeping two roster spots open for two injured and not-young running backs. ONE of them might be back, but even that's slim IMO.

Just because you attach IMO to a post doesn't make it so. "IMO the sky will fall tomorrow" is not an opinion it's a delusion.

I would respond to that. If it made any sense whatsoever.

it did not look like a season ending injury

but he is a RB and its hard to cut with a bad knee i would say 4 to 6 weeks at best

My point was that because you called it an opinion doesn't make it one. What you have stated here is more like a complete guess. Opinions are generally based on some factual information. Opinions generally fall between complete conjecture and actual proof.

For all the crap Maroney gets for being fragile, Morris is made of glass. He started off ok, playing in 44 of his first 48 games. Since then, it's been a different story. Games missed:

2003: 7
2004: 3
2005: 0
2006: 4
2007: 10
2008: 3
2009: ??

He's been a useful player, better than I thought he would be when they picked him up but he's been banged up constantly.
