Re: No Trades Today. Tate, LeVoir taking spots of Galloway, Matthews also re-sign EA

Still not sure why these moves were made today. I have to believe they were pursuing a deal that ended up falling through. The new contracts for TBC and EA likely created additional cap space for this season...why do that if there was no deal?

I'm pretty sure both TBC and EA were on vet minimum deals, there is no deal that they could be given that would pay them less this year. Any new deals would be using cap space, not creating it.

Because you can't change contract terms in the first 12 months. These were done to extend both players.

And no, there is no extra cap made available. Both were minimum salary players. Aiken, TBC, and Alexander's cap hits all went up this week. (TBC and Alexander we'll know later, but Aiken's salary went up from 650K iirc to 1.15M)

Whats going on with AD then?

Most likely the opposite, eat up cap space this year to save on cap space next year.

Same with Galloway Im guessing, BB just knows he could and should be playing better so he wanted to send him a message by sending his but home and not playing. Only difference between AD and Galloway is Ad is not going to get cut, at least I hope not.

Re: No Trades Today. Tate, LeVoir taking spots of Galloway, Matthews also re-sign EA

You can't redo contracts twice in one year if the player is still under contract. That's why they were cut before being given extensions.

EDIT - Never mind. Thanks for clearing this up.

my guess is he was not happy in he's roll in the D and BB just sit him out for runing he's mouth

maybe AD talked to ray lewis and he told him hey AD the pats are not useing you right your a LB not a S you should be rushing the passer not covering a TE lol

I thought VIP members only were able to delete their own posts (other than the mods).

If I'm wrong, I really need to change the saying on my avatar.

They can't cut AD. They don't have the cap space, and theres no way to make the cap space without cutting other key players.

If that's true I'm getting a really good deal.

There is NO WAY that Tate and Levoir are on the 45 at this point..they get league exemptions for a few weeks..I am sure someone knows EXACTLY how long that is and can add that. And I believe Tate on NFI has a different window...I am sure Reiss, Price will clear all that up. BUT NO..no way are they on the 53.

BB said on Monday that they have 2 or 3 weeks to determine if they can be added to the 53.

Re: No Trades Today. Tate, LeVoir taking spots of Galloway, Matthews.Pats Re-sign EA

Begining this week, a team has three weeks to start practicing a player, and from that point, they have a three-week window to activate the player or put him on another list. My thought is that both players are close to being activated, otherwise BB would have waited until after the bye week to start the three-week practice window.

I also thought it was a mistake to cut David Thomas--now I'm pretty sure of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Levoir is on there pretty quickly, simply because of Light's injury. Right now, with Vollmer starting, the backup tackle is Logan Mankins, which would pull Ohrnberger, Connoly, or Kendall Simmons (who I think is still nursing injuries) into the starting line up, which would weaken multiple positions.

But Tate's position is too complicated. He'll be 3 weeks before hes on the 53, if he even gets on it, and 6 weeks before he has a chance to hit the 45 in anything other than a ST role.

They didn't cut David Thomas. They traded him.

Re: No Trades Today. Tate, LeVoir taking spots of Galloway, Matthews.Pats Re-sign EA

So, the consensus is that Tate and Levoir are actually NOT taking the spots of Galloway and Matthews and that the Pats will probably end up rolling with 2 extra roster spots to either sign a FA or eventually add Tate or Levoir...or did the OP actually hear that Tate and Levoir were both getting activated as the title seems to indicate?

You're right. But the net result was exchanging Thomas for Matthews on the roster. Turned out to be a bad deal, IMO.

They haven't been activated yet, and I see no reason to believe that they will be activated until either A) Belichick wants to put them on the 45, or B) The 3 weeks runs out.

Right now, for the next 3 weeks, they have 55 roster spots. Unless Belichick needs one of these guys, I'd expect to see an FA or two in town for auditions.

And a pick.

Still, maybe they thought Thomas just wasn't going to pan out, and they saw Matthews and Thomas as a wash. In that case, they gained a (5th?) for a basically nothing.
