Panthers message board: "pieces are lining up" for Peppers to Pats

if they did not get him in the offseason there are not going to try to make peppers a OLB now yes he can play DE in the 4-3 and just russ the passer untill he picks up the whole play book at the end of the year

but they dont have the cap to make this happen he will not take a pay cut

With both TBC's and Alexander's cap numbers increasing, and Galloway chewing up dead cap space, I'm curious how we're fitting in the roughly $11M worth of salary that Julius Peppers is owed.

Pixie dust helps....:p

God bless carolina fans. They dont know math to save their lives.

I know I'm quoting myself, but can we not do something like this?

I think that would technically be tampering. You are talking to a player and his agent prior to having his rights. Even if you have permission...

Its not tampering as long as the team (Carolina) consents to it and allows a certain window for talks to be open.

BUT! Most teams would not do that because this leads to much more idfficult problems. Whats to prevent our Coach or any other team from Faking interest in order to just say we wont trade for you now but if you somehow become "free" in the offseason we could give you XXX amount of money.

Kind of like what Jets did with Crabtree

The Panthers could give them permission to talk to Peppers. Trades contingent upon extensions are common.

The Jets even talking with Crabtree was tampering.

Which is why i said that.

No, because a team cannot sign a player to a deal until he is traded to them and Carolina can no longer negotiate a long term deal with the player in order to facilitate a trade which means he comes to any team under the franchise tag which means you have to fit him in under your present cap until you get an extension done.

Just stop people. We've made a bunch of moves today that have decreased our cap space while extending low salary players into 2010 or 11. Nobody is coming unless it's a replacement for what Galloway was envisioned to be. Nobody looking for a lot of money is getting extended. Bill will leave a couple of million available for (god forbid) later season injury replacements. That's it.

This Peppers inanity is prima facie evidence that the good people of the Carolinas have the willfull cap ignorance of Michael Felger. Sorry folks for being so harsh.

I am not reading this board for the next hour and 38 minutes.

I thougth once peppers signed the papers that he had to play for panthers?

IE he couldn't be traded.

Did peppers pick the pickled papers for the panthers?

Palpable,pernicious........prattle...............with pepperoni......please!

If Bill says to Fox, "Look, you tell your boy we'll give him this. He agrees to it, than you trade him"

Than when he comes here, you have a deal that is immediately done. Or would they not even be able to do that with their current cap space? It's hardly tampering if Bill asks Fox to talk to his own guy. I mean, why wouldn't he? Dont you think that franchise wants something for a guy who is as good as gone? I'm just sayin.

Fox can't sign him to a new deal. We couldn't sign him until after we traded for him. Talk is cheap.

You cannot circumvent the cap.

Under that scenario that is not tampering as the pats have asked, and been granted permission to talk to Peppers.

The problem is that the Pats NEED to clear the cap space first, then re-do Pepper's contract or Peppers re-does his 1 year franchise tender deal which would fit into the Pats currrent cap structure but I don't think you can do that.

Some trades and deals are fun to think about and this is one of them. The reality is there is just no way this can happen. No way.

OK, again this is what I'm saying. Bill tells Fox he will trade for Peppers ONLY IF PEPPERS AGREES TO A CERTAIN DEAL ONCE HE ARRIVES IN NE

That's not tampering, it's not Peppers being re-signed by the Panthers. It's an agreement that would help get the deal done. All I'm saying is you have an enormous talent like Peppers that's about to walk for absolutely nothing. I think they'd do something, anything, to get something for him.

I'm not saying I expect this, I'm just wondering if it can happen.

Now that's what I'm asking. If we only have so much amount of space, we probably can't even trade for him in the first place to work a deal out because he wouldn't fit under our cap under our current limit. He can't re-sign with Carolina either to make him cheaper. This pretty much puts my dream to bed :(

heres a thought: What if Peppers pretends to have H1N1 and doesn't play another game for the Panthers this year instead he gets underground minor facial surgery and moves to Boston. The pats then go out and sign Julius Peppers "long lost brother" Hulius Peppers for a minimal contract. This way julius peppers can play for a winning team, get paid by the panthers and fit under the cap. It's a small "if" but seems like the most reasonable way for it to happen. :D

What's that great CW song line, what part of NO don't you understand...

He arrives here under the tag and we're over the cap and the league voids the trade before it even happens on that basis... You cannot circumvent the cap, period.
