Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going down

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

I highly doubt this move is due to any type of 4-3 "switch". Also I thought they still have to pay TBC and didn't get much cap savings?

As for the trade rumors, why not wait until the trade to release TBC if that was the reason for the cut?

By releasing him now, they don't have to wait for him to clear waivers.

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

That's what I was thinking.

its really intriguing, but given that the trade deadline is tomorrow and we're playing TB next week i think its pretty unlikely, I mean i don't think the Bucs have a great chance of winning anyway but for the Bucs that's pretty much the equivalent of us trading Tom Brady to them this week - not only would they be getting a great player but they'd pretty much know our entire gameplan, i can't see the Bucs doing that if they have other potential trading partners, especially given the global attention this game will receive

GREAT fun thread

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

  • Galloway is a healthy scratch for three games. Ravens rumoured to be interested.
  • AD is a healthy scratch out of no-where. Numerous mid-pack teams are HURTING for LB's.
  • TBC and his 3-sack pass rushing rejuvenation are cut. Left field move.
  • Seau comes back sooner than expected.
  • Aiken (WR #4, STer) signs a 2-year extension (on Friday). It should be noted that this move actually INCREASES Aiken's pay this season.

Rumours:
  • Merriman to the Pats
  • Galloway to the Ravens
  • I've also heard rumblings of the Browns LB who missed out Sunday with an "illness" being available.
  • And the long-standing, generally considered impossible "Peppers to New England" rumour-tron.

I have no doubt something is coming. The question is, what?

I propose this thread for keeping track of interesting tidbits in this area and wild-speculation for bragging rights.

If I had to guess, it's bigger than our pre-programmed minds are willing to wish for.

you sure are hearing a lot of rumblings...any chance you ate some rancid moose meat or week old wolverine and that's just your stomach churning??

I'm sure someone else knows more, but in a switch to a 4-3, wouldn't you want a DT more like Seymour than Big Vince?
Wouldn't a guy like AdT suit the DE slot of a 4-3 as well, or is he still too small to play DE, even in a 4-3?

Correct.

Belichick actually offered Vince Wilfork to Al Davis first, but Davis declined.

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

Except that trading Adalius would cost ~$7M on the cap.

Details, details.......

Adalius doesn't have a spot in the starting lineup in a 4-3, apparently. The ends are Green and Warren, and OLB's are Burgess and Guyton.

i'm not going to claim to be any more of an expert than you are, but there are lots of ways to run a both a 4-3 and a 3-4 - look at the 4-3 they run in Minnesota - the Williams brothers are both in the mold of wilfork - same thing with the ravens as they have giant men like Mckinney, Ngata, and Kelly Gregg - maybe you dont NEED a massive run-clogger to run a 4-3 but they can certainly have a place - in general the pats D is predicated on having very big men who hit really hard and wear people down over a game - i'd imagine that would be our 4-3 philosophy just like it is in the 3-4

Burgess is not a 4-3 OLB. Without Adalius, Woods and Guyton are the 4-3 OLBs.

BB is going to sign any LB who actually owns a passport. BB couldn't believe TBC didn't take care of that minor detail before the season began.

Chris

As I say to my wife "prepare to be under whelmed"

+1 The only thing to say about this team's recent transactions is to expect the unexpected. (Excluding the Junior Seau signing, which was predictable by all.)

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

I hope a trade isn't for Merriman. Hasn't he been playing less than 100% this season. Besides, couldn't he be an one-year rental like Seymour for any team that trades for him.

It doesn't take a genius to see that A.J. Smith would love someone to call him with a good offer -- say, a second-round draft choice -- for Shawne Merriman between now and the trading deadline eight days from now. That would mean Merriman would have to show some signs of being a dominant player again. Since this was San Diego's bye week, and the Chargers have a Monday-nighter next week that will end 16 hours before the trading deadline, that won't give interested parties much time to beat down Smith's door.

Burgess is a 4-3 OLB. In his 9 years he played for Philly and Oakland, both 4-3 defenses.

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

Two more crazy ideas that could happen - what about trading for Tamba Hali or Aaron Kampman?

Hali - emerging rusher on an awful team, apparently everyone except for Cassel is available, a 2nd rounder could be attractive to Pioli

Kampman - former pro-bowler struggling with Capers' version of a 3-4 - maybe he's a better fit in our varied Defense? Not outside the realm of possibility

Burgess played DE in Oakland and Philly in the 4-3. He is a 4-3 DE and a 3-4 OLB. Just like Peppers would be if he had been traded here.

Re: Signs of the Trade-pocalypse: Official thread for speculation on WTF is going dow

Could the Morris injury ahve something to do with this?

Taylor is gone for awhile. If Morris's injury is long term that leaves NE paper thin at RB.

Maroney isnt the poster child for not being injured.

Bill Belichick on WEEI's Big Show today on if Patriots would make a trade at deadline: "I'd be surprised."
