Right but the 4 WR shotgun to open the 2nd half up 42-0 was a little over the top. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I think Belichick is a f*cking bad ass and I love him as a coach. But . . . you know.

Absolutely no complaints about this article. He's right:

No one should have any problem with one professional football team running up the score on another professional football team. This isn’t high school or college.

These are grown men, all well-paid professionals, with huge coaching staffs and equal resources. The Titans may be winless this year, but they went 13-3 last season. In the NFL, if you don’t want to get embarrassed like that, you should do something about it.

I agree that BB probably has a long memory, but I think it is silly to say that yesterday was a revenge game or that the Pats ran up the score. Yesterday, while Brady was in there, they ran the game plan, which was why they opened up the second half with 4 wide....if I am not mistaken, that is exactly they way they opened up the first half too. BB could have easily kept TB in there for another series or two. And, while Hoyer was throwing the ball some, they ran the ball up the gut alot on those last drives when they got into Titan territory, and in fact, the last TD was Hoyer on consecutive QB sneaks.

Didn't read the article, but disagree with this comment. BB knows better than anyone that you take nothing for granted in the NFL [see '06 AFC Championship, SB 42 etc]. The 4 wide shotgun was what they were having tremendous success with--why shut it down to start the second half of an NFL game?

Even though a lot of other coaches in this league probably would have taken their foot off at that point, this is the kind of thing that I love about BB.

This is exactly what I was thinking when it came to the morons who say the Pats ran it up. If they wanted to run it up, they could have reached 73 points (or more to break the record) easily. Also, I believe the record for TD passes in a game is 7 (I believe), and Belichick has taken Brady out both times he's passed for 6 TD's. If the Pats scored 73 (or more) and Brady had 8 TD passes, then I would have said they were running it up. Though I wouldn't have thought there was anything wrong with that, Were people complaining about running up the score when the 7 TD passes were thrown ? I doubt it.

The problem was, the Titans couldn't stop the Pats, nor could they generate anything (or stop fumbling or throwing INTS), so the scoring continued. Obviously they took the foot off of the Titans neck, only scoring 14 in the second half.

Brady told D&C that HE felt it was important to work out his kinks and show that the O could play well after halftime, something notably bad in both the Jets and Donks losses. Once that was done, any psychological hurdles were overcome and time to move on to a UDFA rookie at QB.

Running up the score woulda meant BB challenging the really bad call on the safety.

Absolutely no complaints about this article. He's right:

The article is one of those "People are saying your mother is a whore, but I don't think it is true" situations. He covers himself with reason but leaves enough wiggle words in the article to still leave doubt.

For those that need it, here are some guidelines around running up the score:

1) If you did it in the first half, they can do it in the second half. Games are never over at halftime and to pull starters at the half shows at best disrespect and at worst contempt for the opposition.

2) If you want the pain to end, pull your starters first. If Fisher wanted Brady out of the game, leave Vanden Bosch and Bullock in the locker room.

3) Use common sense when running plays with a big lead. Don't throw deep, don't kick field goals and don't blitz.

4) Whatever players are in the game, play hard and keep running your game plan. Changing mid-game to non-optimal play calls results in bad habits and injuries.

5) Take a knee as soon as possible without making a mockery of the game.

With few exceptions, Belichick stays true to these guidelines.

Agreed. Just opening up the second half with Brady still in was a little over the top. I actually said aloud that I wouldn't have been suprised if someone took a dirty shot on Brady's knee. But it is what it is. I just hope that our fans will say, "well, we should have played better" when someone inenvitably wins by 50+ on us and still continues passing out of multiple WR sets sometime down the line. I still remember getting sick to my stomach last year reading the posts crying and whining about the Chargers and Rivers wanting to go for it on 4th down, already up 20, late in the 4th quarter on us. The people that were doing it were mostly the same people saying that our opponents "should have played better" in 2007.

Exactly, all of us have been concerned (even if only a little) about the passing game, out of sync, over throws ETC. Well what better way to iron them out than in a game situation. As far as someone writing about it? Always happens, loved yesterday's game!:singing:

The only one I would question is the throwing deep. You can't never run a deep route because it clams up the play field, and if the only guy open is the deep receiver you should have to force it into a covered player underneath (or throw it away) just to avoid "running up the score".

I agree that running the flea flicker designed for the end zone would have been poor form in the second half though, if that's the type of thing you were referring to.

The whole running up the score whining is bullsh*t. Is this the physical manly sport of football, or a kiddy little league game where everyone gets a trophy???

College football teams routinely run up the score on weaker opponents.

There are countless examples of pro baseball, NBA, and NFL games which had huge blowouts.





At the same time, it would be awesome if Belichick actually screwed Fisher for his comments in 2007. It would be MJ-esque, in remembering minor slights and then getting major pay back. I would actually love Belichick even more if this were true.

The curse of the "Terrible Towel." Ever since the Titans disrespected the Steelers terrible towel in a game at Pittsburgh last year, they have stunk. Even though I am a Patriot fan, you don't do that to a teams icon. The Titans always seemed to take that extra cheap shot. Fisher has no control over his team and now they are getting what they deserve.
