Did Butler start in place of Bodden? The Minnesota/Baltimore game ran over, so they didn't show the first part of today's game where I lived, but when it did cut to the game, I heard Jim Nantz saying the Patriots were starting 2 new corners today, and I noticed it was Wilhite and Butler.

Butler is a stud. What do you think?

Oh, and how do you think AD is feeling now?

butler had a big play with that INT today. i liked what I saw from him against the ravens so it'll be interesting to see if his playng time increases

This was weird to me. Bodden has played nothing but well his entire time in NE
Butler has been playing equally as well though

Nantz and Simms stressed how much tighter the Pats corners were playing this week vs last week against Denver.

Isn't that a bit of a quick reaction?
Hopefully Bodden steps up his game as the competition in the secondary rises. Bodden is a good veteran ... I don't think Butler has him yet ... great competition though.

Both Bodden and Springs were demoted this game, but I think Springs is the guy who will see less playing time moving forward at CB. There's been talk of him maybe playing safety, but we're pretty stacked there.

Bodden was more than just good in all of the games excluding Denver. I don't know how much was strategy... but wasn't there 11-ish catches on his side ?

Butler - looks good so far.

Bodden seemed to play quite a bit as far as I could see. I wouldn't read too much into who started the game. Many times the player who starts the game doesn't always play the most minutes.

See I think who starts does say quite a bit. Looks like the coaching staff was disgusted with the pass coverage against Denver, so they replaced the corners and instructed them to play at the LOS, with virtual press coverage. We'll see if they continue with that strategy, or if its just limited to the Titans game plan.

Belichick and Pees do change personnel due to match ups. It could be that they were making a statement by benching a bunch of people. It is too soon to tell if this was that there is a change in the depth chart, a particular match up, or punishment for a few starters.

Interestingly both rookies, Butler and Chung got picks today. Big plays, albeit under abnormal field conditions and against an opponent who never 'got off the bus', that we've sorely missed on D. Add in Seabass' play at LT and of course Edelperson and this years' rookie crop made plays. Something the highly paid FAs need to emulate.

Tenn. doesn't have gamebreakers like Marshall and Royal. Pressing crappy receivers is the way to go...even if you miss the jam, they're not able to take it to the house. I think this strategy, like all Pats gameplans, was opponent-specific.

Butler and Wilhite looked good out there. The Pats defense pitched a shutout and forced 3 turnovers. Good stuff! I think the Pats defense and offense units can all take something out of this game to build on going forward. They tried something different defensively and it worked. Meanwhile the offense got on track again and is looking more like the juggernaut we were initially expecting for 09.

Pretty ridiculous to think that after a single game. But he's definantly looking like a player. I think we'll see a lot of Bodden-Butler this year.

Springs was dinged, so i would guess that's why Butler started.

the starters were bodden and butler....

bodden later was replaced by whilhite....

wheatley was inactive, springs did not play

Man I hope so - People say it's scheming, but it really seems like Butler is so much more of a ballhawk. Bodden constantly gives 10-15 yards of cushion.

Especially to see Butler go out and play great after the tragedy at UConn. Good for him.

Springs did play - he was in, just didn't record a tackle.

Butler started in place of Springs, not Bodden, and dictated by personnel, not any other factors.

Belichick plays to win each game with his best 53 at that time. Butler started instead of Springs.

I don't think that Butler is close to Bodden at this point, but he may be as good a starter as Springs. I don't expect to see Bodden being back next year. With our other corners, Bodden should be more valuable to other teams.
