This Afternoon: Rain. High near 46. Breezy, with a north wind between 22 and 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Rain. Low around 40. Breezy, with a north wind between 17 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

It sure does look like it. I don't think the rain will be as big a factor as the wind. With Tenn's DB's being depleted the passing game would be huge but the wind could hinder the Patriots passing game.

Re: Waather a Factor in today's game?

I don't think the rain will be much of a factor, but the wind can be. It will depend on how hard it is gusting and what direction the wind is blowing.

Re: Waather a Factor in today's game?

Gillette Stadium is positioned almost north and south and the wind is from the north. Crosswind causes problems for the passing game more than head/tail wind. If these wind forecasts are correct then the affect of the wind would be equivalent to 5-15mph. Not nearly as problematic.

Is the closed end of the stadium on the south or north side. If it is the south side, the wind will be trapped in the stadium and create swirling winds. If open end is the south end, then with win has a way to escape the stadium.

I don't know...I'm waavering on the waather.

Re: Waather a Factor in today's game?

Well, this does put a bit of a dent in my hopes for the TFB and Co. pass-o-rama game to finally get a good chance to click. But on the plus side, I believe it's supposed to be equally crapola weather for Jets v Buffalo. Let's see how the California Boy Sanchez handles the schmutzy Northeast weather. Something tells me not so good! :D

GO PATS!!!!

North side is open.

I have been to every game ever played at Gillette and I am here to tell you - it is impossible to figure the wind and it's effect there (unlike old Foxboro stadium, where it was pretty easy to figure it out, but, really hard to kick in it).

The wind swirls like crazy at Gillette -the flags on top of the stadium often blow opposite of the way the flags on top of goal posts do.

We have seen many times when flags on top of goal posts are opposite of the goal posts on the other end and even, sometimes on the same goal post.

Only "meat" knows for sure!!

jets are at home vs buffalo

Re: Waather a Factor in today's game?

I could be an idiot, but that doesn't necessarily relate to my thought on this...

Aren't Moss and possibly GallowsSway at an advantage in the rain? Easier to burn corners and safeties in the wet and the wind won't affect passes in the short-medium range at the velocity TFB sends them out. I think it could be a big day for Joey the Swinger and the other speedsters (Moss, Watson).

This weather doesn't make the deep 50 yarders very likely, but I don't think it's going to hurt the passing game much at all.

It's attention to detail like this, that makes some posters contributions meaningful.:D

Yeah, thanks, I fixed it already. I should read my ramblings more carefully before I hit submit, especially when hopped-up on coffee and game day jitters! :D

I was curious where this forecast was for exactly....there are variatons between Foxboro and Boston..so unless this is specifically for Foxboro..it could be off...I am hoping it's for the stadium area itself...
The wind..big factor..more so than the rain..although I did see that no tarp on the field..so it will be sloppy...

This was specific to Foxboro. A sloppy field is not too big a concern as they have field turf.

I mentioned somewhere that I am 20 mins from the stadium and that it is windy.

It has been so windy, I now have 3 garbage cans, not two.

The field is going to suck, which is just going to benefit the Pats. Chris Johnson is going to be slowed down all day, leaving Collins to throw all day/night long.

Thanks...I thought it might be...Wind more a factor than rain...and NO tarp...

just the opposite............rain with winds, gusting to 40 mph, favors the team with the better running game.Chris johnson is a load on a dry field, never mind a sloppy one. It's OK if the Pats can get the lead and force the Oilers to pass............if not.........it's trouble.

The open end is the north side.
