I've tried to check the Boston Herald Sports section online and I keep getting a mousetrap type of virus trying to download itself to the computer.
It pops up with windows looking warnings that your computer is infected and a window that looks like you authorized it to download a new file.
I had to go to task manager to shut it down.
I was running Firefox when I accessed the Herald pages.

Just a warning to any of you who read the Herald Sports like me from a distance.

In the computer field, this is a very common virus.

As long as you READ carefully before you select an option, you will not pick this up. Even if you have to close the browser etc, whatever you do, don't click on YES or DOWNLOAD--whatever the option is.

These people prey on those who are going quickly and don't read what they're doing. This way they trick you into purchasing their anti-virus software. When acquired, it is very hard to remove.

Thnx for the head's up, and good luck.

Sadly that happened here as well  We use a similar ad network now as they do, and someone submitted a campaign with malware on Thursday I believe because I got a notification regarding it. I'm guessing the Herald will have them pull it as quickly as I had it removed - but definitely be careful and be sure you have anti virus software regardless of what site you're on.

AVG DID warn me about this site the other day when there were problems here.

You guys look at that paper/website still??

I continue to boycott that rag and might be forever.

Seeing how tough each season is I cannot bring myself to forget the nasty and disgusting job they did under the guise of journalism on the eve of SB and ruin it for both the team and us on such a record breaking season.

still

Still pissed?

Guess you won't be going to London where those perfidious Brits who went to war against us not once, but twice, live.

Don't let that fake antivirus scan your HD . Cancel always the scan.

Anyone got a link I want to download it. :D

To be fair to the H*****, I've also seen the same cr*pware at the Globe website, too.

Well, maybe those ingracious Brits went to war when you were around but not after I was born. :D Just kidding... couldn't resist it.

but yeah...I feel very comfortable in my decision not give their site or paper any importance. Maybe I will be mollified after we win the next SB.

Until then, I will never click on their links. And, whenever I come up there, I try to piss on at least one of Bullcr*p Horsesh*t paper :D kidding again.

Oh, I go there because of Howie Carr... One of the best columnists in the nation. I'll give the Herald this much: They are head and shoulders above the Globe. :D

Jeez...that is a bit harsh, isn't it? I am leaving politics out of this and am focused on their journalistic abilities, which sadly is not that impressive when you consider how that lady at BG casually linked Asante's tattoo with his tough stance on his contract negotiation. And, she didn't have the decency to apologize for doing such a pathetic job and smearing his name.

And yeah...I don't bother about that Dan or Bob who have no clue about the Pats and yet seem to talk as if they are experts. And the other guy from the BH joined the BG this season..Mazz something. This is the same nutcase who called all us fans as idiots or something at the BH. I don't even want to waste the few seconds to look up that guy's name.

Whew! That's my vent for the day.

I rely on this fantastic forum for my news. i used to read Reiss' mailbag and columns until last season, but since he moved, I haven't yet visited the Globe's website.

Chris Price, SY, Bruce are some journalists whose work I read without hesitation.

Eh, I just needed to vent too... :)

Trying to find other work to keep me busy until 4PM rolls around.

I've been getting the same thing intermittently on each site for a couple of weeks now. Very annoying as the only way out is reboot.

I control-alt-delete and kill my browser sessions.

Thought the computer savvy here would be interested in seeing this. I'm not the savvy type ... I kind of stumbled upon this.

Sneaky Microsoft plug-in puts Firefox users at risk

Computerworld - An add-on that Microsoft silently slipped into Mozilla's Firefox last February leaves the browser open to attack, Microsoft's security engineers acknowledged earlier this week.

One of the 13 security bulletins Microsoft released Tuesday affects not only Internet Explorer (IE), but also Firefox, thanks to a Microsoft-made plug-in pushed to Firefox users eight months ago in an update delivered via Windows Update.

The Microsoft engineers described the possible threat as a "browse-and-get-owned" situation that only requires attackers to lure Firefox users to a rigged Web site.

https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/blocklist/

Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant and Windows Presentation Foundation, all versions, for all applications. Reason: remote code execution vulnerability (see bug 522777).

A bug in the software and M$ is involved. Color me shocked.

Some people are way pissed off about this ... like last straw kind of pissed off.

Like Ian said - it's the ad networks that allow an infected ad through their systems.

If you run Firefox, with the 'AdBlock' plugin, that will take care of that problem, along with good AV, and regular scans with MalwareBytes.

However, if you use AdBlock, sites won't get ad revenue from you. It's a tossup, where my safety wins out. Which is why I donate to sites that I use on a regular basis, if they allow it.
