Red Sox 2010 & 2011???

If I'm not mistaken, I heard on one of the sports talk radio stations that the Red Sox hit .220 in their last two playoff series (ALCS last year vs the Doofin Rays, ALDS this year).

If that is true, we're back to needing bats in the line up now, but at what cost? Somone metioned trading Clay for a bat or Papelbon for a bat and sticking Bard in as the closer.

If both of those scenarios go down, Bard is untested as a closer and you've just traded away your #3/4 starter and who do you put in his place, Wakefield and his blown out back?

To get you have to give short of throwing money around in the free agent market......

Drew is a terrific defensive OF'er, so DH'ing him makes little sense, especially since you have Ortiz and Lowell signed for next year.

I think they all come back, with the bigger question being LF. Would they move Youk there if all else failed? I doubt it. It's going to be an interesting offseason for the Sox. They could go in a number of different directions, that it's tough to predict their moves at this point. Papi and Lowell are in there last years, so while I think both will be back, I wouldn't be surprised if they eat some coin on one of the two, and ship them out. Power is the one commodity that is hard to come by now, with PED use so dramatically restricted. What was 40-50+ homers, is now back to the customary 30-35. It's why the Sox and Yankees bid so highly for Textiera. Each team knew that a middle of the order bat of his caliber, would not be available on the open market for some time. Could the Sox pry Miggy free from Detroit? That team is in some financial trouble, with respect to how high it's payroll is, and how bad the economy is in that market. The owner has deep pockets though. How about Adrian Gonzalez from SD? Big price to get him. It's going to be an interesting off season I think. Lot's of Hot Stove talk, rumor, and inuendo.

I still can't understand why Seattle would move Felix Hernandez. He's under control for two more years, and Seattle wasn't horrible this past season. Also, if they do trade him, the Sox wouldn't be a guarantee to get him. At least 10 other teams would be in line for his services. He's the type of pitcher you pay for. Extremely young, AL experienced, and with supreme stuff. The cost in terms of prospects would be devastatingly huge. We're talking Youk, Buchholz, Ellsbury type expensive. Hernandez is arguably the best pitcher in all of baseball, at 23 years old. The Yankees would probably be looking at a package that would include Hughes & Chamberlain. Hernandez is that good, and at 23, hasn't even reached his prime yet.

Truthfully, Mauer will be a free agent after 2010, unless he sign an extension with the Twins. If he doesnt, Red Sox better get him or else the Yankees will.

Surprisingly, we rank 4th in AL offense, we rack 46 more home runs than 2007. But somehow, we mediocre against good pitchers.
