Warren's is a little questionable but Merriweather's????? When you have the flag out before it occurs its not unsportsmanlike conduct!!!

At this point should every defensive player just go into the year assuming that he's going to get $50K in fines no matter what? Getting kinda ridiculous...

That penalty still befuddles me. I wonder if he'll protest?

Is is strange that the this info comes directly from the players and the league doesn't simply issue a report each week with a list of all fines assessed?

According to Reiss' twitter the NFL did confirm those fines but if no one inquired would no one ever know?

Is it possible that they make this info difficult to come by as someone would inevitably review the offending plays and point out the inconsistencies of the fine amounts?

So even if BM did taunt, what about the countless players on offense that do their BS dances, taunts, etc every play on simple 10 yard catches. Talking **** is part of the game but it seems like penalties / fines slip past the offensive guys. I guess that's not surprising though, rules favor offense.

He should. There is a good amount of taunting that goes on after every play in a typical NFL game. To get fined for it is ridiculous. Makins deserves his. I didn't see the Warren play in question so I can't really comment on it.

The Meriweather penalty still angers me. The ref obviously through the flag for something else, and it was if if they were like hmmm we could call him for taunting I guess...

Count me in as someone who disagrees with these. I don't recall anything egregious enough being done by any of these players to warrant a financial penalty. It's ridiculous.

Is it me, or has there been a trend for the past few weeks where the questionable calls in our favour are lambasted by everyone while the questionable calls against us all generate fines?

Eh. Makins' hit was very late and it was in the back. I can see the fine for him. Meriweather, definitely not. Warren, like I said I don't remember Warren's penalty so I can't argue with it.

I just posted on this in the Lewis' fine thread, but I think it bears repeating: Goodell hands out fines like Halloween candy. I hope the NFLPA insists on changes in the new CBA.

Agreed- Mankins deserves his fine. Meriweather doesn't, and I don't even know what Warren is being fined for. I assume it's his roughing the passer penalty, and that was a legit penalty, but it wasn't particularly egregious. Is roughing the passer an automatic fine now?

I am normally not one to complain about fines but the BM one ... all I can say is wow. I understand if they flagged what they thought was pass interference then changed it to taunting but ... the taunting call itself was weak and to then fine him for it is ridiculous. For $7,500 I hope BM got to say some very bad things about that receiver's mother ...

If I knew that I was going to get fined $7,500 for taunting, I would just spit on the ref and make the fine worth it.

The whole defense should be fined as crappy as they played last week.

Oh come on now, if he did do that, GODell would have came down on him with all the power of the god's and crucified him and the team with suspensions, fines, loss of picks, and force forfeits of games.

LOL

"Dear Mr. Kraft. We at the league office find it necessary to fine your entire defensive squad $5,000 per man for playing like crap. As further punishment we require you to hire and play a 40 year old surfer, err, movie star, umm, linebacker who will undoubtedly become the focal point for the opposing no huddle offense on passing downs. We are also fining Dean Peas $7500 for impersonating a defensive coordinator, taunting the fans and holding up two fingers behind coach Belicheck's head at a team meeting. You are further instructed to soundly beat that PIA Jeff Fisher and his porn star mustache." ($1 to patsox23)

"Should you fail in any of these directives we will send you Chad Brown, Doug Gabriel and Chad Jackson to reinforce out intentions. Also, please stop sending us letters requesting Adam Seward."

Sincerely
Roger Jetdell

I was going to say, did anyone else see that the ref threw the flag before Merriweather said anything? It was like he was going to call a late hit or something, but realized he couldn't, so he just called it taunting. The NFL better reign itself in. It's getting ridiculous and it's interfering with the game.
