Peyton Manning 2008 - Tom Brady 2009 - Through 5 games

Colts got a big win over Baltimore same time we did too, although I think it was a week later. They then lost two in a row before getting 9 straight wins.

Comparing Brady to anything right now is not fair. We still don't even know how damaged Brady's shoulder is right now. For all we know he's playing with a bad shoulder from the Skins game. Rust is one thing but there are times he is clearly horrible ... I think he's playing hurt.

Whether he's playing hurt or not, your point is valid. People here are being absolutely asinine in assuming (a) Brady should be back to pre-injury/year off form by now and (b) that he won't ever be back to 2007 form.

2007 Brady was because Brady finally had the Manning level offense surrounding him to make explosive plays happens.

2008 Brady never was.

2009 Brady is currently coming back from an injury that can end a QB's career AND from a full 18 months off. Anyone who thinks he should be back to any pre-injury form at this point is seriously delusional. And anyone who thinks he can't get back to 2007 form because "that's not the real Brady" is, frankly, a jackass.

Nothing I can't stand more than people prognosticating about crap they clearly cannot predict with any accuracy at all.

One reason I think Colts fans were more forgiving was Peyton first practice was in the pre-game of the 1st game. Because of the infection and surgeries, Peyton missed all of training came and all of the preseason. So much of the Colts offense relies on timing and precision, that not making a single throw prior to game one was a HUGE issue. If you look at when Peyton's numbers started to straighten out, it matches up time wise to the amount of time training camp and preseason would have taken. I think most Colts fans were hold out hope that once he got some practice time under his belt, things would start clicking.

I have been hard on Brady but I have to consider the coaching and scheme.

One big difference is Manning still had Tom Moore and Brady has no one. He probably has to bring O'Brian upto speed on finer points of the offeses rather than receiving help. The brain drain on offense side has to be hurting... just watching Miami putting up 21 points in the 4th quarter alone against the same Jets that shut us out of the entire second half. Play calling is a major difference maker. Colts offense play calling is so wicked good. I have not seen us executing easy short passes with long yac (on regular basis) that Manning seems to hit for at least a TD every game.

Based on this, how about Brady's 2010 stats:

Pats Record 5-0
Brady's comp % on average of the 5 games - 73.5%
Brady 12 TDs - 4 INTs
Brady passes for 1,645 yards or 326 yards per game average

That's something to look forward to
