Carson Palmer has never been the same after his ACL Injury.

I keep hearing that Brady is not going to give a home town discount
for his next contract.

If Brady does not get any better than this, do we give him a mega-contract?

It's only week 5 of the season and I'll put my homer hat on and say that Brady improves and will get paid the money he deserves here. Personally, I can't see him wanting to play anywhere else, but then again, I'm just "joe blow" posting on a Pats fans board. Time will tell I guess...

I dont know what even to say after that..

The Bengals have been good, but Palmer has not been great.
Palmer has 7 touchdowns and 6 inteceptions 1,116 yards in 5 games with a 76.9QB rating (24TH IN THE NFL).

Brady has 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions 1,344 with a 85.9 passer
(19TH IN THE NFL).

Funny, Palmer threw for 28 TDs and over 4,000 yards (both were second best of his career) and made the Pro Bowl the year after his ACL injury. His problems after that year had to do with problems with his shoulder and elbow, not his leg.

Brady never said anything about not giving a hometown discount. Everything he has ever said has been that he wouldn't want to ruin his legacy for a few dollars more.

It is game five back.

Stupid thread.

1. No. 2. He will get better, so this is a pointless exercise. Look at Manning and look at Palmer, who had a great year his first year back.

Brady will get better. If not than the patriots will have a new qb ....

Mannings injury was not a big deal.... (It was not an ACL injury).

Palmer did have 28 TD's the following season & he made the probowl
as a backup with Vince Young & (What does that say about the pro-bowl).

Palmer had 32 touchdowns in 2005 before the injury with a QB rating of
101.1

Since his injury his QB rating has dropped.
2006 - QB Rating 93.9
2007 - QB Rating 86.9
2008 - QB Rating 69.0
2009 - QB Rating 76.9

2011 Raiders 1st round pick

Calm down kids, not even Tiger Woods wins all the time.

Brady will never get the mega-contract but not for the reason

you mentioned. He will be dispatched to Oakland when or before

his contract expires. Bob Kraft is not going along with these

big contracts any longer. He'll take his chances on trading players

off for draft choices. He'll take advantage of a new salary schedule for

rookies in a new CBA. The Patriots will have 4 year only players.

Carson Palmer threw for 4000 yards the year he game back. We're 5 games into the season. Let's relax.

Right now ? My answer to whether he gets a huge extension with the Patriots is an absolute, resounding, no doubt about it YES.

However . . . he's going to need to play better. I'm assuming he will. If my assumption is wrong my answer will change.

To answer your question including the premise, no, there's no way we pay $12M or so a year if this is the best he has which was your question.

i was waiting for this thread...actually looked for it after the jets game, so i'm impressed by the restraint that was exercised until now

come on, it's five games...

but, i think the bottom line is that the answer to your hypothetical, premature, really unanswerable question (note the qualifiers) would be "no." i don't think the Krafts are going to give anyone a "thanks for the memories" blockbuster contract. However, I fully expect Brady to show by November that he warrants that kind of huge deal....

this is all an argument, BTW, for why players shouldn't take a hometown discount on any contract; the NFL is a place where a career can change or end any day on the practice field or playing field. i don't like Eli or Peyton very much, but I don't begrudge them at all taking the money when they could get it. these guys are all in the entertainment business with a set of skills that rapidly diminish with time. they should get every penny they can when they can get it.

Where have you heard that? I have not heard any such discussions.

Brady will rebound. Will he get a contract he should from the Patriots? No. This game proves why he should take care of Brady. If he does not play up to his ablity then he will be benched. Then BB or the Krafts will get rid of him just like everyone else. Brady should take care of himself.

It's highly unlikely he won't get better. But to go along with your scenario, there's almost no way he would get an extension. His rating this year is lower than any other season, even 2001.

But in reality IMO this is crazy talk. Brady will be back.

Man, I can tell it's going to be a long week
