Cmon we all saw it, The d*ck head ref was pulling that flag out before Merriweather even got up. I think they were going to call unnecessary roughness but decided that it wasn't and didn't want to waive it off so they made up some BS. I almost threw the remote through the damn TV. THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE THREAD, I REPEAT THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE THREAD WE HAD PLENTY OF CHANCES TO WIN THIS GAME.

I don't WTF that was all about, its like they were looking for an excuse to throw a flag and then they were looking for a reason why it was thrown when they didn't have one. It wasn't why we lost but it was a bs call.

That was devastating, but you can't blame the refs after the Ravens game. This loss falls squarely on the shoulders of Pees, O'Brien, and Brady.

I don't think anyone is blaming the loss on that. They're just pointing out that it was a terrible call.

Well, IMO if Meriweather shut up and back to the huddle, referee picks up the flag and that all . Not all the flags are penalties .

In the previous drive, they throw a flag for nothing .

Refs are not perfect, we all know, but Meriweather is so far than perfection that hurts .

All right, but there have been plenty of BS calls the past two weeks on both the Pats and their opponents. They cancel out. Picking this one out of the hat is pointless.

I think they were going to call interference but once waived that off because the ball was tipped. Decided to call taunting. Meriweather must have said something when he made his motion, because I don't think the motion he made warrants that call. I see defensive players do that all the time after plays. I think the forward motion stopped ruling on Moreno's fumble was worse because I thought they made a rule that a fumble could be reviewed even after the whistle blew. But no excuses.

Agreed. It's pointless to complain about calls. It did suck though:)

If I heard Phil Simms correctly, I believe he said the flag for taunting came from a different official. The ref next to Meriweather that threw a flag was calling something else but it got picked up (maybe PI since the ball was tipped?).

It looked like they were trying to throw the late hit flag, realized there wasn't a late hit, so they changed it. Either that or the ref can see into the future and call penalties before they happen. Occam's Razor, anyone?

Anyways, it's kinda bull****, but irrelevant- the Pats had plenty of chances to win the game; not the refs' fault that they failed repeatedly. Hopefully this will at least shut up some of the ref bias talk, but realistically that won't even happen either.

They said that another official off camera also threw a flag....so that the one they saw was more than likely a picked up PI flag...and a different official threw it after the "taunt"..

QFT . Ball was tipped off, so there 's no pass interfirence

It was a pretty critical call. It looked bad because Meriweather waved his hand right at the guy. A lot of times, DBs will celebrate a big play when they get up from the ground, but their momentum carried them far away. In this instance, when he got up, the receiver was right at his feet still so I can understand the call.

I also didn't like seeing Springs flexing out there after a pass break-up. Where was that super strength when you were being abused for by Marshall for that first TD? I saw Bodden celebrating after a few plays too. Overall, the secondary played poorly today, so it bothered me to see them celebrate when they actually made plays.

Pats v Broncos @ Denver

Pats dominate first half
BS flag by back judge sets up Denver for an easy TD
Pats play like @ss the second half
Brady in desperation turns the ball over late in the second half
Pats lose

2005 playoffs

Yes, I don't know why the booth didn't halt the play and blow it dead. What the heck was the review booth doing?

If true, the official who threw it was far away, so his calling a taunt without hearing what was said, when the ref next to the play didn't, that's suspect.

Honestly, I think Simms just made that up, because you could tell he was shocked that the flag was thrown prior to the taunt. If he had seen another official throw the flag, he wouldn't be so shocked.

Excuses or not: (guess I can't help being p/o'd right now)

BS1: Morenos fumble called forward progress?
BS2: Flag for pass interference magically turned into a taunting flag??
BS3: Brady's fumble not reviewed for possible incomplete pass by the booth???
BS4: The play after; no booth review of that fumble either????

1 and 2 I think are just horrible calls. 3 and 4 I think more than likely were correct, but should've been booth-reviewed within 2 mins nonetheless...

The refs were bad today. The taunting call was simply idiotic. However you can blame the loss on lack of offensive execution and a defense that no longer can stop a team when it matters most. Whining and crying about the refs like Ray Lewis did won't change the fact that the Pats lost a game that they could have easily won if they executed better.

You are correct.

Wow. Lets not do this. All week I thought the Ravens whined like sissies about the referees. We're not the Ravens. ( no offense intended ).
