I know there are other threads. I'm starting this because i don't think that's the problem. I think he knows full well where he's supposed to be. His problem is the safety running to the same spot that's going to wallop him if he completes the assignment.

Given that Galloway is a known quantity, hsving played on a number of NFL teams, I think the Patriots messed up big time trying to convert a speed receiver into a receiver spending most of the time in traffic.

Maybe Brady is so mad at him that he won't work with him anymore.

He may be in the right spot but he has about a 70% chance of just dropping the balleroo.

They didn't even take him on the flightaroo...isn't that a bad sign?

He's dropping balls because he sees the safety ready to clobber him. He does not want to be running toward the teeth of the defense, he wants to be running to daylight.

Been around the league long enough for us to know, unless he's recently got gun shy, which I doubt. I think he knows where he's supposed to be. He just doesn't want to be there, because he knows he'll get clobbered.

How could the Pats acquire a guy at his age with all the teams he's played on and just assume he'd be great in a role he likely hasn't been successful in?

If anyone has knowledge of him being used as a possession receiver, for lack of a better word, I'd be curious.

I don't think the patriots assumed anything.

They signed Galloway (a top old veteran) and expected him to do the job. Apparently, can't so he will be waived.

If your question is why the patriots seem to have poor judgement in choosing him, I simply disagree. The patriots draft, sign and trade for lots of players. Some work out, some don't. Belichick's record of cap and personnel management as good as anyone (right up there with the colts and the steelers).

I'm not criticizing their total record and you know it. They acquired a veteran to fill a spot. He's a vested veteran, so they're on the hook for a whole year. He's now a healthy scratch two weeks in a row and his spot will be manned by a quarterback and a special teams player.

The Patriots have put together the most talented team in football, possibly.

Still, sometimes it's productive to put down the glass of koolaid and address the situation.

OK, there's a statement. They have plenty of information on him, they signed him knowing that guaranteed his contract for the year. He's health and not available in the middle of the season.

I say they made a poor judgment. Anyone that thinks they made a good judgment in this case is free to weigh in.

I haven't seen Galloway play a ton for other teams, but the scouting report on him says he's willing and able to make catches in traffic when he has to.

I don't think it's a fear thing really. I really think he's lacking confidence. There have been a few plays that he could have made, but there were some overthrows too. He would have had a TD in the Jets game had Brady not overthrown him.

I do think Brady lacks confidence in him though, and that probably has a lot to do with the benchings. And I think if he was showing more in practice, he'd be on the active roster. So I'm guessing it's confusion.

This is my opinion also, RC.

I mean the Pats are using Aiken at WR over Galloway.

Unless, IIRC, someone were to sign him off waivers, at which point that team would assume responsibility for the rest of the contract.

But that money is already on the books, so to speak, so it doesn't cost them anything extra to cut/trade him, as it did when they waived Chad Jackson.

My guess is that if they plan to cut bait, they're either trying to find a trade partner, which seems rather unlikely, or waiting for the trade deadline so that he then becomes subject to waivers (so he doesn't end up in, say, Indy or New York).

Great response, thanks. I think, based on a play or two, with the announcers commenting, that he has turtled on some throws with the safety approaching.

If he has some history of getting it done in traffic, then the Pats went on that, or that was overstated. Maybe it's a matter of struggling in the system. Maybe he has an attitude.

Let's see how it works out. Good info though. Not every outstanding player is fit for every role. If he can fit that role, he adds speed to the equation, but traffic catches in the right spot are mandatory.

this is belief, AND my hope:

w/o welker in, galloway and moss had to alternate running the middle routes....

now, w/ welker back, and a pretty capable edelman, they have two guys right there to do that job, so that galloway can be brought back to his more natural routes.....

and hopefully that fixes the galloway and #3 reciever problem

btw, did someone say galloway didnt make the trip to denver?

We'll see, BMU. The thing is, Moss has the #1 receiver routes. The "Gaffney" role is more about precise route running and finding holes in the D while ending up in the same place the QB thinks you will based on the defense. Speed is nice, but secondary.

Although I was a Gaffney fan, I don't think that position is that costly to fill since GMs always overvalue the speed guys in the draft (fill in the blank Chad, Bethel, 8 guys from every other teams drafts...).

Still, whatever the price, having the right tool for the job is what counts.

Well, Galloway isn't gonna gain any confidence watching the games while at home that's for sure and I think the 1 game inactive would be enough to get his attention and I'm not buying the "he and Brady are out of synch bit" either. Heck, Manning doesn't have troubles getting into synch with Garcon and Collie and thery are rookies.

I think the Pats finally realize they blew it by not getting the right kind of receiver for the job.

Like the way BB is handling this, by the way. Hopefully he comes back and lays like he can or gets cut eventually. Either way, it's better than denying the problem and trying to finesse it, as it will blow up later anyway.

My feelings in a nutshell. However there has to be more to it than that, since they could get good use out of him in multiple receiver sets.

Let's see how it plays out. This is a disciplinary action to an extent, it has to be.

I did see him turtle once or twice on some throws, so it's not as if your OP has no merit whatsoever. But I'm guessing (maybe even hoping) it had to do with comfort level.

Part of going into traffic for a catch is knowing that your QB is going to put the ball in a good spot for you, and not just lay you out so you're vulnerable. And as big a fan of Brady as I am, he was definitely off the first few games. Not blaming anyone in particular here, but Brady and Galloway haven't been able to get on the same page at any point this season.

And though the report says he can make catches in traffic, it doesn't necessarily mean he should. I mean the guy's 37 years-old. Maybe he'd be more effective stretching the field. I don't know, and at this point, we may not see him again.

At this point, I think if Brandon Tate is ready to go a week from Monday, Galloway may not make it to a week from Tuesday. Granted it is a long shot since it will probably take Tate a few weeks to get up to speed with the offense and playing. I could see Galloway cut by week 10 or 11 though.

Tate has a 2 week window before either going back to IR or making the roster, right?

It's tough to believe that a rookie who has never actually practiced with the team will pick up an offense that a veteran has struggled with after five months. I love - love - the Tate pick, but want them to take their time bringing him back.

BTW - the answer to the thread question is... yes. :D ;)

Brady's attitude towards a reciever IS the issue. For whatever reason, once a wideout gets into the Brady doghouse he's toast. Usually it's for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. With the Pats' throw to the spot offense, failure to run correct routes results in a higher chance of a pick. Brady hates INTs. Therefore, Brady won't checkdown to a guy he's not confident will be there when he needs him there.

For whatever reason Galloway has been unable to overcome a bad impression he's formed in Brady's mind, even during the week in practise. I'll bet it's an unpleasent situation.
