Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

Denver's D has been questionable over the middle. I think that's where we'll exploit them, not in the deep game.

Matt Bowen from National Football Post discussed some of the DB/WR matchup issues:

"How does Champ fit into this discussion? From my perspective, Mike Nolan needs to use Bailey—who is healthy and playing at a high level—in a way that allows the Broncos to pressure. Match Bailey up against Moss, and allow the Broncos to run combo coverages on the inside to take away the intermediate passing game between Tom Brady and Wes Welker. By doing this, Denver matches up their best against the best of New England, and if Bailey can force the ball to go somewhere else—especially on third downs—the Broncos can bring pressure and use safety help to take away any inside breaking routes by Welker when he is aligned inside the numbers."

Weekend Notes: Bailey vs. Moss | National Football Post

If the Broncos try to take out Moss with Bailey and double down on Welker, there will be huge openings for Galloway, Watson and Maroney to make plays. All 3 have exceptional playmaking capability.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

Hear me out:

1) McDaniels knows how important Welker is to moving the chains in particular and the offense in general. He knows the Pats are 3-0 when Welker starts. McD will make sure Welker is bracketed to take away the hot reads and check downs as best he can.

2) With Bailey locking down Moss, and stopping Welker the focus of Denver's pass defense (as I believe), you'd think Watson or Baker might have big games. But I think the TE will first be asked to chip Denver's fast DE's, especially Dumervil. That will delay the TE's release from the line of scrimmage, and minimize somewhat their role in the passing game.

3) Which leaves us with Galloway probably drawing single coverage on the side opposite Moss. Joey's had 4 weeks of the regular season to digest the playbook and try to get on the same page with Brady. I also think the Patriots will be smarter, and use him to go vertical, and play more to Joey's strengths, rather than trying to make him an underneath receiver - which he isn't. By using Joey this way, any RB like Morris or Maroney who might stay in to block, can leak out into the short zone cleared by Galloway's vertical route. This strategy also plays to Maroney's strength of getting him out in space.

What do you think?

This thread is a joke ... every week some member looks for the holy grail of secret weapons to employ. There are no secret weapons to employ. Every team knows every tendency of the other. Games are won by execution, exploiting mismatches, and staying away from mistakes and penalties.

I personally think this might be a break out game for Julian Edelman and solitify himself as the #3 WR

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

Id think we would see more of baker or watson in the passing game this week.

Remember when we played the 49ers, when Nolan was DC there, he went with single coverage on Moss. I'd expect him to do the same again tomorrow.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

Really thought things would turn around - but this is very, very telling. I'm guessing they're working the phones to get a draft pick for him.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

I guess being benched against Baltimore was more than just a wake-up call.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

I just hope our #1 board binky doesn't continue to drop passes.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

Adam Seward?

Can you imagine this defense with that particular player suiting up every weekend ? Wow.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

I'm sure that Belichick would like to find a non-playoff team to trade him to for a 7th.

Re: Joey Galloway's Breakout Game?

Joey Galloway's breakout game will occur when he is reincarnated.
