Texas televangelist Benny Hinn refused entry to Britain

An American Christian preacher has been turned away from Britain, leaving thousands of people stranded at an evangelical rally in London this weekend.

Benny Hinn, from Texas, who draws large crowds to his Pentecostal revival rallies, was turned back at Stansted airport under new rules on visiting ministers of religion.

Many thousands of Pentecostal Christians travelled from across Britain and Europe and booked long weekend breaks in the capital’s hotels for his mission at the ExCeL exhibition centre in Docklands, East London, which had been due to begin on Thursday night.

Always liked England, in fact i don't think i would mind living in the Lake District

No Freedom of speech for you!

How have they infringed on his freedom of speech?

They wouldn't allow him into the country to allow him to speak to the people that came to hear his preaching. Bigotry against Christians, ironic given that Mullahs are preaching in London Mosques calling for Sharia law in England.

It is always so simple for the right, the Muslims did it..

spent a few weeks there when I was in my early teens... I dunno how I'd feel about the hills these days, but back then it was beautiful.

They probably banned him because "Benny Hinn" is just too close to...

Who blames the muslims, I am pointing the discrimination against fundie Christans. Sorry I'll try to keep it simple so een you can understand.

The UK government bans all sorts of people from entering. I'm not a fan of it myself, but they're pretty comprehensive in their banning. FYI, plenty of Muslim preachers have been banned as well.

I changed the title as a) I can :)D) and b) the UK is the correct term. England applies to one bit of it.

So he has the right to enter England? Is that because he's not Mexican?

Was waiting for somebody to change the title :D

Well he has a US passport, but he isn't being allowed to speak to people who want to hear his talk.

Left wingers only care about their free speech.

That's patently untrue. I specifically defended the protected speech that was the ridiculous facebook poll if you remember, amongst many other free speech cases.

What does him having a US passport have to do with it? You are not guaranteed entry into the UK simply because you have a passport. Unless you are willing to allow anyone with a Mexican passport to enter the US.

BTW, I have not yet said that I agree with their decision to bar him from entry, but I didn't hear you speak up for Cat Stevens and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't allow anyone with a passport to enter the US.

You're making a fuss over nothing, if he had got the required paperwork he would've been allowed in. It is up to the individual to ensure that they have that, and if they don't they will be refused entry. Nothing to do with free speech.

A Border Agency spokesman said: “Under the UK’s tough new points-based system, religious workers must obtain a valid certificate of sponsorship prior to arriving in the UK. These rules are designed to make sure that a legitimate sponsor is linked to each application to enter the UK for work purposes.

“These rules are applied objectively and clearly set out for travellers. People who arrive without the required documentation can be refused entry to the UK.”

Guys, if this gets into a whole left-right thing, I'll throw it to the Political Forum, so you can enjoy yourselves....

This is forum is meant to be about religious stuff...

Benny "hashpipe" Hinn banned from entering the police state of UK

There, I fixed the title.

Benny Hill is a funny guy, Benny Hinn is just a joker.

You are blind if you think that they are separate... there, I said it.

I disagree. I think there are areas of overlap but you can have poliics without religion. As someone who is practically atheist, it's pretty easy for me to make the distinction. :)

Actually, to set the record straight, I believe in God, but, depise organized religion. Too much traditions of men and going through the motions of BS PC red tape.

If that makes any sense...

I don't like religion and I don't like politics either.

However, I AM a Christian.

Something to ponder.
