Patriots Secondary Becoming Primary Force Against Opposing Offenses - New England Patriots - NESN.com

It's not exactly common for a head coach to replace his cornerback midway through the game's final drive, but such was the case for Bill Belichick, whose late substitution Sunday helped contribute to the New England Patriots' 27-21 victory against the Baltimore Ravens.

With cornerback Jonathan Wilhite struggling to stay with Ravens receiver Mark Clayton, Belichick opted for rookie corner Darius Butler during the two-minute warning. Butler entered the game nearly cold turkey -- having played a minimal role to that point -- and shut out Clayton from that point on to help the Patriots close out a tight win.

With the Patriots' depth at cornerback, Belichick makes sure to get each player some reps early in games to keep them ready in the event they're called upon in key situations.

It's obviously incredibly early to make comparisons, but Butler showed me flashes of looking like another Big East CB, Darrelle Revis. God hope that he develops the same way. I think Revis is right up there for DPOY through 4 games so far this year. What a weapon to be able to have someone who can blanket opposing CBs like that, especially if paired with an extremely good CB like Leigh Bodden, and with good safeties.

We absolutely need to find a way to keep this secondary together. Bodden is the only piece who isn't signed for less than 2 years right now.

I grew some love for this kid watching him during UCONN games (the few a season I get on TV here.) I was excited when BB himself made a road trip to Storrs - specifically to scout him, IIRC - and really happy when the Pats picked him up.

Welcome aboard, DB the CB!!!!!!!!!!! :singing:

After numerous attempts, I give up. What does this mean in English?

Yea, I think he just goofed a little, and intended to say Bodden is the only member of the secondary who is signed for less than two years, which is the long way of saying he's the only member of the secondary who could leave via free agency after this season. I wish they could have worked out a longer contract as well, but I think he'll stick around.

It must be a language barrier. Try this.

The only piece Bodden for less than two years who isn't signed right now.

Ah that makes more sense.

In other news, Leigh Bodden 沒有簽字超过一年或二二者之一。

Русские приходят!

I hate to break it to you, JSn, but your Chinese grammar sucks. *grin*

And, yes, I agree with the general consensus, that we need to lock up Bodden. Butler & Bodden with W-squared playing in sub-packages sounds pretty darn good, especially with our emerging strength at safety. I'm excited!

Concerned about Wheatley. He may be drifting off into the abyss AKA Belichick dog-hosue.

I typed as confusing a sentence as the original and then stuck a fish in my ear to make it Chinese. As they say in the province-that-would-be-a-country, "il est ce qui est il." :D
