Think he might still be on the Pats radar? I can't say I have any idea WHY he was suspended...

OLB Vince Redd, who has been suspended four games by the NFL, flunked a drug test as a result of taking Sudafed, his agent, Joe Linta, told Scout.com.

"If you check the ingredients of Sudafed, it has Ephedra in it," Linta explained. "Vince said he took Sudafed around the time of a league administered test, so it was an honest mistake. I don't think he realized what was in Sudafed, which really is a cold medicine. He looks forward to continuing his career this season."

Ephedra, which is generally taken for weight loss, is a banned supplement by the NFL.

Thanks, Sebman. I don't know if it's dumber that the NFL thinks Sudafed could somehow enhance performance (guess they can't prve why Ephedra was in his system, though) or that Vince didn't know what he could and couldn't take.

I met Vince this spring. He's a cool cat, big guy and I think he'll play somewhere.

The doctor put me on some prescription cold medicine last week (first time ever done this in my life) and I swear, I have only been sleeping one or two hours a night with no really bad effects yet. Also sent my blood pressure higher.

I think these things give the body a megajolt of adrenaline.

He'll definitely play somewhere. That somewhere will be in the new X-Men movie where Redd will assume the role of Juggernaut.

with prescott gone, we do have an opening in the ps no?

The fact that he was released so early in training camp probably means he ain't coming back to the Patriots practice squad opening or not...if he comes back it would be because they are desperate and have had multiple injuries but not sooner...

he is a big quick olb, worth another shot imo. I like the guy. see the potential.

He is big but is not strong at the LOS or Fast. I think BB thought he might be a Slower version of AD but he was genearlly very slow.

I think they should shore up the ILB maybe and add AD to the burgess and banta rushing end role.

I doubt it. He was cut early in training camp and picked up by the Chiefs and then subsequently cut by them too.

The whole pseudophedrine thing is legit. It is a stimulant and there was a time in the NHL that there were candy bowls full of them in each locker room that the players would take as if they were candy before games. I used to take them for sinus congestion. It can help a player breath better in addition to the boost he feels. The danger is that the way these drugs work is that they often raise blood pressure levels. Add in serious exercise like playing in the NFL or NHL and you can see the possibilities for strokes or other blood pressure related problems.
BTW - Upstater's description of what he experienced is right on the money - sleeping problems, but a serious jolt to the system. The body needs to be able to wind down and sleep and lack of sleep along with high blood pressure is bad combo.

Every football player born in the last 30 years knows about Sudafed. It is the stimulant of choice down at the high school level.
