according to me as of right now(vikings play the packers tonite) the best 5 teams in the nfl would be

1 COLTS
2 SAINTS
3 PATS :singing:
4 RAVENS
5 49 ers ( i personally feel they are playing better than the GIANTS)

...........

1. Saints
2. Giants
3. Colts (who have they played?)
4. Patriots
5. Eagles

a little homerism, but not too much

1) Patriots
2) Patriots
3) Patriots
4) Patriots
5) Patriots

I am NOT a homer... I live in Canada. ;)

As of Right Now:

1) Giants
2) Colts
3) Saints
4) Pats
5) Vikes

Easy top-3: Giants, Saints, Colts. Giants have the best OL/DL personnel in the league...winning in the trenches is important. Steve Smith has relegated his Carolina namesake as "the other Steve Smith". The NO win that impressed me the most was the methodical dismantling up in Buffalo. That was an impressive road win. They can run, pass and play some D. Just when you think this is the season Indy drops off, they're right there. Pats will go in there and struggle to a victory...at best.

Next 2: Pats, Steelers. These are two teams that are already great and you know will just get better as the season progresses, especially when Mayo and Polamalu are back.

Regards,
Chris

Colts have played 4 bad teams in MIA, TEN, SEA, and JAX. I would put an asterisk by their record. The team is overelying on Manning--more so than usual. He has over 300 yds in 4 gms which is good for him, but what does this say if he has one off game? The margin for error with Peyton is extremely small.

The Saints are the best team in the game right now. I don't like their running game yet, but they are finding other ways to win games which is fascinating to see. The defense is legit and that home field advantage is incredible.

Giants are the most balanced team in the game, but I'm not sure they are playing as well as the Saints. The G-Men didn't exactly light up an inept Chiefs team

Pats are a work in progress and still have issues with playcalling. I think the Pats need to get some more takeaways in the secondary to be a SB threat.

about the colts........i put them at 1 not for who they have played, but the way manning and co have decimated the opponents with their scoring.........
but i do agree with u on the front that they havent had any substantial competition , the pats on the other hand have played 3 championship caliber teams in 4 weeks..............GO PATS

1. Giants
2. Colts
3. Saints
4. Pats
5. Jets

Honorable mention: Steelers (if Mendenhall is as good as he looked last night, then their offensive problems are pretty much solved).

I think most of these are going to be looking awfully similar

I would have to rank them:

1. Giants. 4-0 and solid all around, despite a lot of injuries. The only team in the NFL as complete and as deep as the Pats.
2. Saints. 4-0 and looking like a complete team - passing, running, defense.
3. Colts. 4-0 has to count for something, and Manning looks terrific. Lack of a running game and a run defense makes them less complete than the other 4 teams on my list, however.
4. Pats. 3-1 but rounding into form in all aspects of their game.
5. Ravens. Most complete team in the AFC next to the Jets.

Honorable mention: Vikings (4-0), Broncos (4-0), Jets (3-1). Jets and Broncos are too much defense only. I don't see Favre holding up for the full season or the Vikings.

Chargers have no defense and no running game. Steelers still have too many holes and too much inconsistency, but are dangerous.

I'll take the Giants, Saints and Colts in any order.

For the same reason that everybody here has ranked the Patriots over the Ravens, I'd put the Jets ahead of the Patriots. Over the course of the season, I think the Patriots will improve, but for now--scoreboard.

1)Saints are the Most complete team in the NFL
2)Giants WITH Eli (who may be out for awhile) are the 2nd best overall team in the NFC
3)Colts are the AFCs best team now...I am surprised that this team is as good as ever
4)Vikings- With that defense,the best RB in the game and a HOF QB that is just along for the ride the Vikings are a powerhouse
5) The Patriots join the group at #5 but that offense still has aways to go before they could be considered higher up,actually this #5 ranking could be tied with the Jets who beat NE last time

1. New York Giants - So far they have been the most dominant team in football.
2. Minnesota Vikings - Brett Favre just completes this team, he is the wildcard and as long as he is happy to be just another name then the Vikings are going to be very hard to stop. So far the Giants have been outstanding but I fancy this team could be the best in the NFC.
3. New England Patriots - I don't see any team that can beat us now except for the two I rank above us. That win over the Ravens showed that we are a major force. The Ravens were ranked no.1 up until Sunday by an awful lot of poeple.
4. New Orlean Saints - They are so dominant on offence but I contend that they have not met a proper defense yet. I don't see them running up a huge score against the three teams above them in my rankings. The Giants have looked so good on defence this year, the Vikings too and the Patriots also. Those three teams also have the ability to score big on the ground and through the air.
5. Peyton Manning has started the season in superb form, their receivers are doing a good job too but they still are not that good against the run. That win in Miami showed just how lethal Manning is, but it also showed that they are not able to stop the run. They will still be hard to stop but they have an achilles heal that will see them lose out against top teams.

1) Saints
2) Patriots
3) Eagles
4) Giants
5) Colts

Not sure if that's in order.

Talkikng about the top teams, I wonder how the rest of the season will pan out?

Lets predict how the remaining games will pan out? Especially as we have an idea of how the teams are performing..

Here is what I think, and I trying to not be bias as a Patriots fan!

Pats Jets Fins Bills

vs Den (W) @Mia (W) NYJ(L) Cle(W)

Ten (W) Buf(W) Bye @NYJ(L)

@Tam (W) @Oak(W) NO(L) @Car(L)

Bye Mia(W) @NYJ(L) Hou(L)

Mia(W) Bye @NE(L) Bye

@Ind(L) Jac(W) TB(W) @Ten(L)

NYJ(W) @NE(L) @Car(W) @Jac(L)

@NO(L) Car(W) @Buf(W) Mia(L)

@Mia(W) @Buff(W) NE(L) NYJ(L)

Car(W) @TB(W) @Jac(L) @KC(W)

@Buf(W) Atl(W) @Ten(L) NE(L)

Jac(W) @Ind(L) Hou(W) @Atl(L)

@Hou(W) Cin(W) Pit(L) Ind(L)

Result: 13-3 13-3 5-11 3-13

I am sure there will be some improbable losses on for NE and NYJ so very much doubt the final record will be 13-3 for either team.

Would pick the Jets as of right now due to slightly easier schedule, 3 of their 4 tough games are at home whereas 3 of the 4 tough games for the Pats are away. Interesting the Pats middle schedule is brutal (Ind, NYJ and NO) whereas the Jets schedule is more brutal at the end.. (Atl, Ind and Cin)

Get well soon Mayo, we need you!

I think the Jets are overrated.. NO has already figured out it's D, and when the rest of the league does so, they won't be so hot.

That's the great thing about BB's defense versus Ryan's defense. BB's defense morphs to whatever is needed for a particular game, but Ryan's type of D is "this is what we do, see if you can beat us." And like the saying goes, you live by the blitz, you die by the blitz.

Yes, those 10 points the NO offense scored were so impressive. If the Pats could have just scored one more point and matched New Orleans offensive output, then we'd have two games out of the four when we could say that the Jets defense has been "figured out". :rolleyes:

Maybe. It's not like Ryan's defense is brand new; he used it in Baltimore and it has been one of the most effective defenses in the NFL over the past years.

There is definately no love for the NY Jets in this thread (is there ever on this message board?) who have beaten the Patriots and have an identical 3-1 record - having lost only to one of the top teams in the NFL. An unbiased observer puts the Jets ahead of the Patriots in the Power Rankings. I haven't even seen them mentioned in the top 5 in this thread...

No Giants?

I would probably go GIANTS - COLTS - PATS in that order (then Saints-Philly), for the time being. I expect that Pats to be up there #1 once the entire offense brings its A game.

I believe that was largely a product of the talented personnel they have there.

The Jets get Calvin Pace back this week. Do you think he will make any difference for the Jets anemic blitz packages.

Saints
Colts
Giants
