Patriots win superbowl wilfork is superbowl MVP.

The patriots let Wilfork go into FA and test the market Raiders sign wilfork to huge deal letting seymour go into FA and resigning back with the patriots for a cheaper price.

Re: A scenario for seymour and wilfork this offseason.

I expect them both to be Franchised (and maybe traded) unless the Patriots quietly promised not the Franchise Wilfork (no reason to believe they did).

Never in a million years. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that Seymour hates BB's guts for (from Richard's perspective) forcing him to uproot his family on short notice and banishing him to football hell in Oakland.

i dont think he care's that much about that he is more pissed about not geting the big money now from oakland

now he has to wait untill next year to get he's bid pay day

Re: A scenario for seymour and wilfork this offseason.

If Wilfork hits the FA market there is no doubt Al davis would pay a lot to get him.

How about the patriots franchise wilfork and trade him to the raiders for the raiders #1 draft pick this year which is a top 5 draft pick. Al davis will now have seymour and wilfork together in oakland.

oakland will give seymour the big pay day that he deserves

and i dont think they resign wilfork i can see him singing with the broncos him at NT with all dose fast LB that's scary

i think they will use the TAG on mankins

the pats dont over pay for FA so if any of them hit the open market they will be gone

Re: A scenario for seymour and wilfork this offseason.

Wilfork will either be extended or franchised whether they decide to trade him or play him, and they all eventually do...

Ditto Seymour in Oakland although based on Al's history and Richard's and a lackluster season that one could get ugly.

i think if oakland put the TAG on seymour he would be so happy that he would jump out of he's skin

that would be 17 million to play one year i dont think he was geting half that with the pats

Re: A scenario for seymour and wilfork this offseason.

With Brace not being able to get on the field, all the talk about Brace being the replacement for Wilfork has disappeared. Wilfork has played well and if he keeps this up, I can see teams forking out big money for him in free agency. Unless the Pats franchise him, I see him leaving.

Re: A scenario for seymour and wilfork this offseason.

If BB plans on not signing wilfork do you think he will franchise wilfork and trade for future draft picks?

all the money he would save and future picks, and his young defensive front remains strong.

The tag is the average of the top 5 this year or 120% of what the player received this year (including average of amortized bonus money). What other franchise tagged players (like Peppers) are receiving does not count in the calculation. It won't approach $17M. This season the tag for DE's was $9M. Next season it will probably be closer to $10M. Although it could be less since it depends on who gets signed the rest of the way this season.

More importantly for this discussion, 120% of this year's cap for Seymour is 11.75M, which is what his franchise number will be in 2010.

Re: A scenario for seymour and wilfork this offseason.

When was the last time a DT won superbowl MVP? 1978. It's possible, but i just don't see it happening. It's just not a flashy enough position on the worlds biggest stage.

No sir. What was peppers tag #? I realize it was 20% more than last year (when he was tagged) but even if you divide his # this year by 1.2, it's still more than 10M, I believe.

BB isn't going to sign Seymour to a big contract are you kidding me? What's the word for this. It's like 'familiarity bias'. You're familiar with Seymour so we should sign him for huge money. BB doesn't like signing people to huge money unless they're truly great.

Seymour is history, thank god.

You will never see Seymour in a Pats jersey again, whatever happened the last week behind closed doors created some very bad feelings on both sides... some things are not going to get better...

As much as Seymour wants another "big" contract, do not think he will be worth as much as he thinks he is... doubt if he will get "Haynesworth" money, but have been wrong before..

Haynesworth's contract has the most fake money of any contract I've ever seen. Its 4 years, 44 million.

I'd be really surprised if Seymour doesn't get that.

That's because Peppers' cap number in 2008 was 14M, 120% of that is a bit less than 17M which is his franchise number this year. But the standard DE franchise number for this year was 9M.

I have no idea what you are babbling about, and apparently neither do you. Peppers was tagged for the first time this year. His tag is far higher than the $9M it was for any other DE's for a couple of reasons. One is it was based on 120% of his prior salary and he was in the back end of a salary backloaded deal. He also reportedly had deferred money or incentives of around a million earned that had to be added. So he ended up tagged for over $17M. But what he is getting this year will not count towards the 2010 franchise tag calculation for other players because tagged players aren't included by rule.

Where did I say anything about signing Seymour here?? Oh, I didn't.

Can anyone really blame him?

I hope our defense plays strong through the whole season. Strong enough that BB has confident in them by letting wilfork hit the FA market, and probally will be signed by the raiders. Or they can franchise wilfork and trade him for future picks, Al davis would do it.

the money saved from not having to sign seymour and wilfork and still have a strong defense up front would be sweet. That money can be used to extend moss and add depth.
