From SI's Jim Trotter via Twitter:

"Harrison said it was a joke. He texted Tom at halftime telling him he was going to say it. Brady texted him back after the game and laughed."

I'm closing the other thread to put that one to bed

Thanks for the clarification, Ian. The thin skin of some Pats fans is ridiculous.

We love them when they're here, and then disown them when they're gone. It's definitely funny how that works when guys move on. God help us if Bruschi ever says anything bad

i knew it ................coz if brady was what rodney called him ,i donot think he would have gone for the slide with ray lewis barrelling towards him (two qbs have already had fractured ribs resulting from similar plays),neither would he have gone for the td himself, these two plays clearly show he puts the teams interests before his own safety...............GO PATS

I didn't see his comments but when I read the title of that thread I fully thought it was a joke and can't believe when I opened it how many didn't even ones that saw it.

oh well I guess when it comes to the golden boy don't even joke.

much love for Rodney here.

I don't think there were many people on this board that believed he actually meant what he said.

Ridiculous that you needed to post this justification Ian. It was clear as day it was tongue in cheek.

Thanks for running a tight ship once more.

Considering Rodney told a story of Brady crying with him in the locker room after one of Rod's many injuries I think they are close enough to make fun of each other. I don't understand the hysteria.

Between Rodney's play as a Patriot, and the loyalty he's shown to the team since he retired, he can just about do or say no wrong in my eyes. To me it was an obvious joke. Rodney LOVES Brady. That's always been evident.

Rodney was joking ,but other team fans and the media are ripping Brady and they are not joking.

I was suprised at how mad people got. I saw him say it, and it's like the time you're with a bunch of friends and someone tries to say something funny. They say it, and then have to spend an hour and a half explaining it when it turns into an argument that just gets out of control.

You can't close and lock arguments in real life. It's kind of too bad - if only life was really that easy

I didn't want to comment of the other thread, but i would thnk people would realize Harrison was kidding or being sarcastic. They were team mates as recently as last year, and if it wasn't for Brady, Rodney wouldn't be sporting two SB rings. Really, would it make any sense that Rodney was serious? NO

It also occured to me that Harrison had talked to Brady about the comment either before or after he made it..

What is sad is that I "got" it right away that he was joking, yet the other guys on the show thought he was serious! I was thinking "What clowns. How they hell do such idiots get to act like they are "analysts"." If Rodney REALLY wanted brownie points, he would have turned to the other 2 and gave them a funny look "Have you guys ever heard of sarcasm?". Of course, he would get a **** storm from the producers. How dare anyone make a tv personality out to look stupid or wrong.

It seemed pretty plain to me that the host knew he was joking.

Rodney has earned the right to say whatever he damn well pleases, as far as I'm concerned.

Thank you sir. It was getting ridiculous.

You mean they aren't cross dressers?

Thanks for clearing that up Ian.

All I know is Tom and his skirt put Superbowl rings on Rodney's steriod bloated fingers.
Good one Rodney! ;)

I dont see whats so funny. You have all these analysts, especially the ones on the Football Night in America set, who take every chance to bash the Patriots, and to say that this is about Brady being overprotected. Dungy said that these calls were directly because an overreaction to Brady being hurt last year. Completely ignoring the call on Flacco. Thats when I would expect someone like Rodney to come to our defense and maybe even show some examples from the Bills and Jets games where no calls were made. Instead he makes this joke, when I would have really loved for him to stick it to Dungy and Olberman. I dunno, I just dont like it.
