Just noticed that all 4 of Moss (10.8), Edelman (10.7), Galloway (9.6) and Welker (7.8) are all under the 11 yards per catch total showing just how much the Pats downfield passing attack has struggled this season.

Interestingly, Watson is 12.3.

Until this season I never noticed the catching ab ility of Watson.... probably b
ecause he is hurt and IA 75% of the year.
The key w/ Watson is- (Will HE Stay Healthy?) He has been a band-aid like Maroney. I like what I see in a healthy Benjamin.

Watson is a deadly weapon. I think Brady holds 50% of the responsibility for the missed BIG CATCH Sunday. It did go through his hands, but I'm not sure he stays in (both feet) reaching that far for the ball.

Despite these short yardage catches (and remember, these stats are averages) we have moved up in offensive rankings.

I included some D changes too. Click the link for the sad part of this report...

A lot of the lower YPC is lower YAC, and a lot of the lower YAC is Brady being inaccurate, and forcing his receivers to make awkward catches, or not being able to catch the ball in stride.

Hopefully as he gets healthier and more comfortable, and works out the rust, it'll stop being a problem.

During the Reche Caldwell era this would have been alarming - as no team had any respect for our ability to throw the ball deep and that presented problems at the line, with blitzes and pressure - i.e. there was nothing keeping DBs honest and that hurt our offense in many ways.

In the Randy Moss/Wes Welker era (and the fact that Welker's out does hurt since his YAC can be significant and must be addressed by D's) there's no question that D's respect our deep game... it's probably just a matter of Brady taking what they're giving - and what they're giving is 11 YPC right now

Any D that begins to disrespect our Deep game is going to pay a hefty price - Moss and Brady will make sure of that - and they'll probably go back to "giving" us the short passes.

As long as the offense keeps moving the ball there's no problem with that stat - there could be a problem when we get into the red zone and defenses collapse and we aren't able to convert those opportunities as we've already seen - but the 11 ypc isn't a big deal to me.
