just read on Pro football talk

The game's defining play was Bill Belichick's decision to go for a fourth and one in a one-score game from its own 24-yard line That means we're taking over the game," said Patriots guard Logan Mankins.

Not much to add to this.

How many times have you watched a game and..
team A up by a few points with a minute left or so will run it and run again and than punt...and than lose the game in the last few seconds.
Gotta give it to BB.

Lineman love to hit somebody once in a while.

I think I said that before? A fired up lineman makes a better pass blocker too, at least on our team where we don't have huge expensive linemen.

Super Bowl Economics: Incremental Analysis, With Two Yards to Go

Obviously Joe Buck nor Troy Aikmen ever read this the way they reacted to the decision to go for it.

Defining play? Maybe. I thought the defining "play" was the play of the defense in general in the second half. 4 Atlanta Possessions equaling 4 punts, 2 first downs, no big plays, 50% completion rate for Ryan, 63 net yards. THAT is defensive play that wins games. The Patriot offense in the second half helped that cause too. Though the red zone is still a great concern, 5 Patriot possessions, 3 drives of 6+ minutes, 3 drives of 70+ yards with 1 of 50 yards.

Early in the year, but that was their moment....

Showed mucho confidence in the O... may be what the Dr. ordered..

"Showed mucho confidence in the O... may be what the Dr. ordered.."

That was my point.

This might be inappropriate thing to say on this forum but after seeing him make the call and them getting it all I thought was...'This guy got balls of steel...' Hail BB!!!

Actually, it showed a lot more confidence in the D who would have been backed up had that decision backfired. Luckily for the us, the Pats, and BB, it didn't and they got the first down.

Ballsy call, but I loved it. Atanta was toast after that.

It's funny I'm watching the Saints/Bills game on the ticket, and the Bills are down 10 points with about 8 mins left. Bills have 4th and 1 on their on 38, and Jurron decides to punt. The fans are booing like nuts The Saints get the Ball and in about 3 plays they end up on the Bills 40 anyway. Its idiotic decisions like Jurron's that make me thank the Lord for BB.

Great call because it worked. Horrible call if it failed.

As much as it showed confidence in the O, it also showed mucho confidence in the D. It suggested that BB believed that our D could still hold Atlanta to a field goal even if giving up horrible starting field position.

Nice "shout out" all around.

Is it just me or are we much better in short yardage when the up man gets the ball. It seems everytime the HB gets it the play is stuffed regardless of whether Morris (our best short yardage option) is back there or not.

By the time the HB gets the ball, the defense has had some time to start attacking/pushing the pile/penetrating the gaps. QB sneaks/giving the ball to the upback give the defense less time, and sometimes surprises them.

Gave me chills.......and it wasn't a short 1 yard either.....

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't that the one where the Pats were on 4th down and inches. If so, to be quite honest, you gotta think the offense can get the "inches".

The play of the game for me was the fumble recovery when Atlanta was moving the ball pretty well and the game was knotted at ten. I think that turnover put the Falcons on their heels for the rest of the game.

"Belichick also seems to understand an idea that economists call "hyperbolic discounting," which holds that people tend to place too much value on the here and now. Taking advantage of this, the team made two trades during last year's draft that essentially swapped a lower pick in 2003 for a higher one in 2004"

Hmmm, BB has taken this to a new dimension with the trade of 93 into the far future.
