NFL Countdown: Previewing Week 3's games - NFL News - FOX Sports on MSN

Per Foxsports.com football expert John Czarnecki. He has been wrong about this plenty of times, but its worth passing along

UPDATE: 9:38 AM

Jason La Confora from NFL Network just said that "a member of the organization said he expects both moss and welker to be active today." sorry no link, just saw it on TV.

if Welker and Moss dont play, they might only throw the ball 45 times.

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

I think the weather will be more to a ground game anyway today.. But Welker missing action today, is alarming because he played week 1, missed alot of the preseason, its concerning going forward with him..

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

Given the conditions today I have mixed feelings about those two playing anyway. Moss isn't much of a mudder and getting Welker fully healthy is more important to the big picture than any one game in September.

How bad's the weather supposed to be anyway? Like tropical storm strength or something, or just rain?

Just a bunch of consistent, and sometimes heavy rain... we need it, but could have waited until tommorrow.

Edelman's effectiveness last week was limited a bit by Brady. If he fills in for Wes again, I'll feel pretty comfortable with that. He's not Wes yet, but the kids a baller and I think he'll give us reasons to cheer all season long.

Now if Brady would quit giving us reasons to throw stuff at the TV, we'd be all set!

Here's what the Weather Channel (via yahoo) says:

Today: Cloudy with periods of rain. High 64F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Rainfall possibly over one inch.

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

well the plus side is Edelman is getting experience very quickly. I just hope they don't decide to keep Faulk in as a blocker. he needs to go in the slot and at the very least he needs to run some routes. he's one of our top 3 receivers.

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

In this kind of bad weather game I'd prefer Welker of the two to play.

I think with any weather I'd prefer Welker to play. We use to have a deep wr corp. now it's pretty thin

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

It won't matter much who plays WR today if the OL keeps playing they way it has, and Tom keeps missing receivers by a mile.

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

Adam Schefter tweeted the same thing a few minutes ago.

True, but it's easier to hit a guy running a slant from the slot than a deep route if protection and/or accuracy is off.

Did Rodney reply yet?

Yeah, but it doesn't sound anything much like a "sure thing."

Adam_SchefterThinking in NE is Moss should be able to go, Welker maybe not. But we'll learn more in pregame warmups.

Re: Foxsports: Welker (Likely Out), Moss (Likely Will Play):

The real question would seem to be whether Edelman will be available, since he is also Q. I'm pretty sure Galloway becomes Moss if Moss is not there, but it would be comforting to have Edelman around if Welker's out. Of course given the Pats' injury report, BB could have just given everyone a couple days off practice and will come out 5 wide against Atlanta.

Considering both Moss and Welker appeared on the field for stretching during media availability, I think nothing's certain at this point. Sounds like it could very well have been a day off scenario, though after last week I'm surprised to think Bill would be so kind.

Edelman was ?able last week, too.

I disagree. This game (except for the health of the Pats' WRs and Brady's timing with the receivers) is set up perfectly for a huge passing day. Rain on an artificial turf is perfect passing weather (assuming there is no wind). On a slick field, the receivers always have the advantage. With the second of the Falcons being their weakness and their LBs not being significantly better, the Pats should be able to pass on them pretty easily assuming both Moss and Welker aren't out.

Granted the double edge sword on this is injuries are more likely to happen on a slick field.

If this was a game in Foxboro prior to 2006, I would agree that this game is more of a ground game type of day. The field would be choppy and it would be difficult for receivers to get open because the field slows them down. Not on Field Turf though. The rules are switched. Running the ball becomes a little more difficult because it is tougher for o-linemen to get traction to open holes. Receivers can get separation easier because it is harder for defenders to adjust their routes in reaction to receivers.
