Article has some good quotes from Herm Edwards and Je Rod Cherry - as we all should know, Sept & Oct. is all about positioning to play well in Nov & Dec to get into the playoffs playing well and healthy (as healthy as the a team can get in the NIL - National Injury League).

I liked all but the last sentence which said the early decade teams were hungrier than this years - the kids out there now are as hungry as ever.

Too soon to get worked up over shaky Patriots - AFC East - ESPN

I'm still so "off" of ESPN that I'll say I don't need those guys to tell me what I already know, viz., that the season is far from over. Still, thanks for posting this.

IMHO, the season will be defined not by tomorrow's game, as some are suggesting, but by the stretch of three games in November when we play at Indy and then host the Jests and Saints. I think that it will take until the bye week (after week seven) to get things together on the D and for Tommy to settle down in the pocket. I'm willing to be patient and take what comes over the next few weeks.

Remember the 2005 Steelers?

Average to junk for a large part of the year - then they caught fire in the last few weeks of the regular season.

Squeaked a wild card spot - played inspired football and won it all.

Remember the 2006 Colts?

A run D that was historically bad - but come the post-season they pulled it all together and won it all.

I remember one of the Giants big-wigs openly questioning Eli Mannings ability to lead the team through adversity in 2007 - they caught fire and won it all.

Remember the Patriots of 2007 who led a scorched earth campaign through 85% of the regular season - looked unbeatable - eventually run out of steam.

I'd rather we were hot at the end than at the beginning.

No reason to panic.

Yes, but you understand football, probably remember the Pats being 5-5 in 2001, remember the hot start in 2002, and the dud start in 2003, so you aren't warried yet.

Have some sympathy for all the bandwagon fans who want all-pro players at every position, no jags (only pro-bowl players) as backups, and who want to know going into every game that the Patriots will win.

These poor guys are in agony every time a CB allows a pass, want to cut every CB who allows a TD, and thinks our defense is not playing well this year because they are only ranked third in the NFL. (Admittedly yards-per-game is not my favorite measuring stick, but even in points per game allowed the defense is averaging only 16.5 points per game allowed.)

Absolutely.

My thoughts exactly. Plus, this team has more weapons on Offense than any of the teams you cite.

The 2007 Giants, which you mention, started 0--2 and 4--4. And, let's not dis the 2008 Cardinals who actually were an embarrassment going into the playoffs at 9--7 and who got hot and a little lucky (and if we don't think "luck" has something to do with winning championships, just ask Mr.Tyree) and came within a circus catch by Santonio Holmes of winning it all.

I find the high amont of reasonable thinking contained in this thread to be quite refreshin.

So true. These kids today are spoiled. I remember some seasons being giddy simply because the Pats had a winning record.

Agreed. All it takes is one win and the chicken little fans will be back on the bandwagon.

Excellent post. Anyone who was around for the previous decades won't be panicking at all...

Patriots are the best team in the nfl by far... Trust me, the jets* will crumble, the steelers will tank, the colts will fold and the chargers...well, they never actually do anything anyway, once Brady and welker are both 100 percent in the game, it on kids, its on.

yes, we are patriot fans. We believe this every year. We will win the next 10 Super Bowls in a row.

You crazy homer.

We can only really guarantee the next 8 with any certainty. ;)

If people dont belive their team is going to win, whats the point in watching the games?
