Seriously, is there a better set of conditions possible for turning this group of new faces into a real team? How does Belichick get these gifts year in and year out...? Anyone really think Tom Brady is going to have a passer rating under 60 this week?

2009 New England Patriots. Don't be shocked when they start rubbing your face in the dirt. I'm excited. You should be too. Sorry for the discursive post.

better set of conditions? like what?

He asked if there is a better set of conditions and you proceeded to then ask the same question?

well excuse me. I thought he was implying that this weekend, things would turn around due to some set of conditions. I was asking what he meant.

I'm guessing that he meant the team will be motivated, they're playing at home, Atlanta's defense is not all that great, and their cornerbacks in particular are not very good. Not unrealistic expectations.

On the other hand, that overlooks the Falcons offense, featuring Michael Turner, Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, and some reliable possession receivers for Matt Ryan to throw the ball to. And their special teams, specifically their kickoff and punting units, are among the league's best; in other words don't expect much of anything from the Pats with their returns, and the offense will be expected to start deep in their own territory.

I can think of a couple better set of conditions for this week: how about having the Rams or the Lions on the schedule Sunday, rather than a team that will probably be in the playoffs again this year?

I'm pretty confused as to what he means as well and likely would have asked the same thing. Perhaps you can explain it? Did the NFL suddenly award us with the Detroit Lions or the Cleveland Browns as our opponents instead of the Falcons?

The pats work best with their backs against the wall. We've seen time and time again that when the national media works as an echo chamber to distort concerns about the team, Belichick uses it to his advantage. It's not just "bulletin board material," it's more a state of mind that he cultivates. "Everyone thinks we're cheaters/our time has passed...what are you going to do about it?"

We are in a great position from a motivation standpoint right now. If you read the national media you'd think that a team that's one year removed from an 11-5 season that has its all-world quarterback back in action is somehow on the decline. Not so fast, daddy. I know the team hasn't looked great, but let's get some perspective: Brady's second game back, in his first game he led a 11 point comeback in less than four minutes of game time, and the Jets only won by 7 points. You'd think it was the kind of thumping we usually put on them with the way things feel.

He's out there giving the game ball to people like it was a super bowl. What a stupid move. That team is in for ANOTHER Jets letdown, but I digress. From the perspective of getting Tommy nice and motivated and finding new leaders in the locker room, could we possibly be in a better position this season.

I expect we will win on Sunday. I posted last week that I expected we'd lose to New York, but I think that will have been a blessing in disguise. I saw good things out of this young team last week; the biggest problem remains the offensive line, but get Welker back and perhaps start bringing Edelman along in a more definitive way, and you're still looking at AFC East champs. Bank it. They'll beat the Falcons this week and they'll still go at least 12-4 this year.

Last year I said 11-5 after the Jets game. No B.S. This year I think we're looking at another Super Bowl run. It just might be a rough September. But, get excited. I'm telling you, this is the ideal motivational position for Belichick.

I think the Falcons could actually be the more focused team in this one. They circled this game on their calendars when the schedule came out...we all did. Its a "statement game" for the Falcons, if you will. The intensity has been building up for this game for a while now down here in Atlanta. The Falcons are just another opponent for the Pats. I obviously am not that close to the team, but it seems like Sunday afternoon everyone immediately threw the switch over to prepping for the Pats, and being excited about the opportunity. The Pats seemed hungover from the Jets loss until Wednesday...although Im sure the team had focus much sooner. But still, while the Pats were still answering questions about the pregame handshake/Rex Ryan, and whats wrong with the juggernaut offense and the MVP and supermodel QB, the Falcons seemed to be answering every question about the upcoming game and maintaining tunnel vision...knowing the task at hand and what is at stake.

But, I guess we will find out on Sunday. None of it may make a difference and my thoughts about what is going on behind the scenes could be a farce.

The closer it gets to Sunday, the more excited I get. I'm starting to feel like we will have a big day from two Falcons in Foxboro...John Abraham and Michael Turner...and if both those guys bring their A game, you will have a battle on your hands. Call it a hunch. Im feeling at least one sack from Abe and a forced fumble...and a couple of scores and over 100 yards from the Burner. Holding off on my prediction until Saturday pm though.
