Neat little article on Tomlin's off-season studies, which included the Pats offense.

On the Steelers: Tomlin likes Patriots' offense

Mike Tomlin spent time between the Super Bowl and training camp studying offenses in the NFL and found one he would like the Steelers to emulate: the New England Patriots.

"I think the great teams are capable of winning in many forms or fashion and playing to their strengths on a week-to-week basis based on a matchup," Tomlin said yesterday. "I thought a great deal about that, frankly, this offseason.

"You study a team like New England, and they walk into a stadium offensively, and week to week they can be whatever they choose to be. They can beat you in three wides, four wides, three tight ends, and it makes them very difficult to prepare for and ultimately beat."

I buy it. And it's no shock that Belichick wanted an offense much like his amoeba-like defense, an offense that attacks what the opposition is weakest at.

During the first two weeks this year, however, we're just not executing. I've seen this before though in 2006 with Reche Caldwell as our go-to guy. Brady was not in sync at all for a long time, and if I recall correctly, the Chargers took the Patriots to the woodshed that season early in the year. Wade Phillips' famous, "We whupped your arse!" game.

NY Jets didn't have a tough time.

I think he means he likes our offense as it's easy to beat. Just rush the passer is about all it takes. Either that or he's just flattering us.

28-6 - regular season the last two+ years, yeah, we're a pushover

Shouldn't you be banned already?

to tell you the truth the steller are just like the pats right now

they have a key injury to one of there best player on D just like the pats

there D is not bad but not as good as it has been in the past just like the pats

there O line is bad and cant run block or pass block and big ben has to throw the ball 50 time a game for them to win just like the pats

they are 1-1 and got lucky to win there first game just like the pats

and they are the world champions and no one is saying they cant win it again this year

so why are we so down on the pats

Nice find. Interesting thoughts.. thanks.

I think Tomlin was talking about the 2007 and 2008 teams. May not have panned out last season but being capable of winning 11 games if you lose the franchise for the season is another aspect of this team that is lost on many.

And then there are his astute comments about early season trends being meaningless.
