Per RealPatriots twitter.

You'd think Connolly would have been the first to go, but he's injured (although he is PS eligible). I'm guessing Wendell goes straight to the PS.

Turk Wendell remains the most famous Wendell of them all!

....I don't know why that's an accomplishment!

I thought Wendell was ahead of Connelly.

Ah well. Practise Squad beckons.

I was surprised. However, perhaps this means that Simmons is ready to be active and the backup at center. It seems unlikely that Ohrnberger is ready to backup at both center and guard.

I am not surprised as Wendell is more of a pure C than Ohrnberger and Connolly who have the flexibility to play C and G. I think this is probably a sign that Connolly is healthy now. My guess is Ohrnberger's preseason performance has kept him off the active roster and that we are going to keep him inactive most of the year.

I had him ahead of Connolly too, but there was the report of Conolly being sought after by some teams and Wendell may be the one BB thinks has the lowest profile which would allow him to clear waivers and make the PSquad again.

I hope so too. Seems the likely scenario, imo.

We have BINGO!!!!

Except I don't think Simmons is backup C material. BB even said they were trying him at T, but I don't think he's ever played C. However, Ohrnberger did in the preseason.

Mr. Box, I hope you were sitting down and away from sharp objects when you heard the news.

Pats1 - Simmons took LOTS of reps as a back-up center with the Steelers.. This was mentioned not long after he was acquired.

Why? He's not you. He can admit when he's wrong about things.. You'd do well to take a lesson or two from his book.

Who's wrong? Capt. Downer wants some 340 lb. road graders inside, Wendell's play to date has no bearing on Cappy's consideration, it's not personal, he just wants a different body type.

Wendell has done nothing in the games to suggest he's lost Scar's confidence, I'm presuming he got cut because he does have PSquad eligibility, is a UDFA with limited NFL exposure, and he's in the deepest slot on the depth chart. I believe Reiss had reported interest in Connolly, which means he'd have more exposure if cut. Orhnberger is a 4th round draft pick from Penn State, that may not please Cappy, but BB obviously thinks Orhnberger would also be at greater risk than Wendell.

If Wendell is never re-signed to the roster or PSquad, I can assume I guessed wrong, but for now - too early. Capt. Downer is just praying for Simmons to get activated for Atlanta.

Maybe it's Connolly that is back to being in good health...it's obvious they would not leave the backup C spot to a rookie...I think this works out in the long run..

Are you serious?

This was only a friendly on-line noogie to Mr. Box, who has supported Wendell since TC. When I read of his release, Mr. Box was the first person of whom I thought, and I wanted to give him a ringy-dingy.

Lighten up, willya?

I'm no fan of Simmons either, Mr. Box, unless he is a legitimate option at Center.

Speaking of Atlanta - I am a fan, however, of their starting LG Justin Blalock, who was available when Bill drafted Meriweather instead. I daresay that Blalock could've improved our running game from either Guard spot or RT. He still wouldn't have addressed the need for a new Center & LT, unfortunately.

I'm sorry, did I ruffle your arrogant "I'm a better GM than BB cause I have 20/20 hindsight" feathers?

Sorry, but you get what you've earned.
