Maybe he's a guy they had on their board as a 7th rounder at one time. They might figure that he didn't fit the Ravens' scheme yet he might be a better fit for theirs.

Some guys work well in a "make something happen" scheme while others work well in a "wait for something to happen" scheme.

Alright, I oughta slap myself for that one. I sound like a hater there...

Hmm. I wonder who we play in two weeks?

This couldn't just be a cheap pick-up and a way to learn a little about the Ravens defense. Nah, teams don't do that. ;)

The Patriots now have a number of young ex-wolverine LB's. To bad they didn't draft the one LB from Michigan who could have helped the most... LaMarr Woodley. He's much to short, stiff, and bulky to play 34 OLB though.

Mayo out longer

Does this mean Mayo is out for longer than we thought as well????

he has 6 tackels in 2 years with the ravens

i think shawn Fable could have got 6 ST tackels

i dont get why they keep puting him on IR with a fake injury

and trade for a smaller and slower LB

i think they should just cut crable at lest he can try to make it whit some team

Fixed it for ya...

Oh good. Another Michigan LB!

....wait, don't we already have one of those?

And he's yet to play?

And I dunno, I would question teammate's words about a guy. He may have just been psyching the guy up.

But hey, LB depth is needed and it's only a 7th rounder so screw it.

That what he does with the Steelers...

We always end up with the wrong Michigan LBs ........

Why do you keep saying this? Do you know it's fake or are you making it up?

I keep wondering every time I see that too. I thought he looked good when he did play so I dont think they would stash him when we could use help at LB. If he had potential and had trouble with the system or some other problem they thought they needed time to work on I could see.

Maybe Burgess can remember some of Rex Ryan's defensive schemes - either to use, or for the next time we play the Jets. :)

Maybe he can help us decipher the Baltimore blitzing schemes. Kill two birds with one 7th. Bill can name him an honorary captain in November if his info is any good.

Along with Chris Baker. That'll mess with Rex's head. :D

Hopefully he turns out as good as this LB who didn't quite fit with his former team: New England a comfortable fit for ex-Steelers LB

Of course Vrable played DE in the Steelers nickel and dime packages and recorded six tackles, including one sack in his last yr w/them but he was mostly a special teamer recording a career high 12 tackles in 2000. It's a reach but I really liked Burgess at Michigan. He went to Michigan as a DB reportedly running between 4.55-4.59 40 and left as a LB. Although he developed into a solid, playmaking LB at Michigan he had a dissapointing combine running 4.82 and lifting the bar 19 times. He moved from FS to LB as a Jr and had a strong season outside finishing third on the team in tackles w/81 and looking like a natural at times at OLB.

6-3 240, 4.81, Big, smooth, versatile, big hitter, good coverage, good rush, slow, unproductive, underachiever, bad attitude

my notes from 2007 draft

The PFW draft guide says he's hardworking, competitive, and hustles all the time. A converted safety that still had to learn to play the position and not as strong or physical as you would like for the position.

He must have worked on some of those things to stay in the NFL. Maybe he has an upside.

He's slow AND good in coverage?

Now that IS a rare find.

Agile, shifty, athletic, slow straight-line speed.
See Kevin Faulk, Wes Welker. Maybe OTIS.
Asante was tested slow in speed, but pretty good in coverage.
Plenty of guys like that.

He measured a 4.81 in the straight 40, compared to Zak DeOssie in that draft at 4.58 with 10 more pounds. A couple linebackers in the 4.4's at the same weight.

However, he was very quick, and had college experience in coverage.
