Per Reiss' Twitter.

There were reports earlier in the day that the Ravens were waiving Burgess.

Burgess played WLB (4-3 OLB) for Michigan, like Crable and Woods. He was drafted in the 6th round in 2007 by the Ravens. Played ILB in the Ravens' 3-4 hybrid. Mainly a special teamer.

In final year of his rookie deal, minimum salary. Two accrued NFL seasons. Still has PS eligibility. 25 years old. 6'3" 240.

Played in the first eight games for Ravens in 2007 before going on IR with a quad. Missed all of 2008 with a wrist.

Good thing we scored another STer. We're thin there... [/sarcasm]

Yeesh. So is this guy of ANY benefit to us on DEFENSE? Anyone know anything about the dude?

I remember reading he was being waived, so he must be good enough to not expect to clear waivers.

Or are we going to make him a team captain in two weeks?

PS. Who's getting cut/IR'd?

Sounds like a "we could use some info" type of trade.

6-3 240, 4.81, Big, smooth, versatile, big hitter, good coverage, good rush, slow, unproductive, underachiever, bad attitude

my notes from 2007 draft

He's slow AND good in coverage?

Now that IS a rare find.

Thinking the same thing, we see the RAvens in 2 weeks.

Or the Pats approached the Ravens in the past about him and the Ravens went back to the Pats now that they were going to cut him. Or the Pats went to the Ravens thinking he wasn't going to get through waivers. Or the Ravens just went to the Pats and told them their LBs suck.

he has 6 tackels in 2 years with the ravens

i think shawn crable could have got 6 ST tackels

i dont get why they keep puting him on IR with a fake injury

and trade for a smaller and slower LB

i think they should just cut crable at lest he can try to make it whit some team

We don't seem to want to use the blitz so maybe he will be more help

than the other Burgess.

Sounds like a career special teamer. Can the dude play inside linebacker? Cos the Pats need some help there with Mayo out.

Ryan Wendell released to make way for him (via the official Patriots twitter).

Phew. I was afraid we were going to get IR news or something.

If we had to lose a player...

It is a no risk move. The guy is playing behind one of the best starting LB corp the last few years. It could be part of the reason for his lack of production. If he does nothing, the Pats probably lose nothing.

Can he run the ball? Watch this guy replace Sammy Morris, you heard it here first.

This is precisely why 7th round picks have some value...pick up a guy before he hits the waiver wire so you get a chance to see if he is a long shot at helping where you're deficient.

Apologies to the PatsFans posters who wailed at the 7th tossed in for Welker. That BB is SUCH a fool.

Maybe he's a guy they had on their board as a 7th rounder at one time. They might figure that he didn't fit the Ravens' scheme yet he might be a better fit for theirs.
