Fauria: Wristbands for the entire offense never work

Fauria was on CSN last nite, and I guess told Holley & ****erson that the Pats have used the all-offense wristbands before and that it has yet to be successful. I didn't see the segment w Fauria, but I saw Holley recap it and say every game we've used wristbands, the team has lost the game.

This was the first time the wristbands were combined with the whiteboards however, according to Belichick.

Maybe the Pats were trying something out, and it just didn't really work out. Maybe we don't see that strategy again anytime soon, as the offensive execution might've had something to do with this alternate form of communication.

That was my guess as well. Of all the people, they had QB who spent two seasons with us, just this training camp. Even if he was total douche with possibility of learning disability, he had to know the terminologies. It was strange sight, seeing receivers with wristband.

They used them in the 2005-06 playoffs, too (on their arms, not their hand warmers like against the Jets...but Branch and Troy didn't wear them...I don't think Dillon wore one for the Broncos game either...Fauria did though, IIRC):

3. No Huddle
4. Multiple penalties for bad formations, TEs covered by receivers on the line
5. Multiple players lining up wrong and having to be moved pre-snap
6. Delay of game penalties from Brady, two in a row at one point.
7. Wrs and the QB out-of-sync on blitzes

Other than the whiteboards, we have seen all of these things happen in the past. But never all on the same day.

Something was funky on Sunday, that much is obvious. Were they trying to combat the loud crowd? Um, the Patriots have played in hostile road situations before. The Patriots have also played a division team that knew all the calls and checkoffs (Miami in 2006).

Unless someone offers a plausible alternative to the speculation that the Patriots changed up because of O'Connell's insight, I'm going to choose not to believe what Belichick said.

Clearly Fauria is wrong about them never working then, as we beat the Jags in that game.

The Broncos game looked a little reminiscent of Sunday's game, sadly. Offense moved the ball at times, but full of costly mistakes.

I'm going to buy what BB is selling for now. I just think maybe week 2 was too early to pull off something ambitious like they were trying.

Let's face it, if they had even brought their C game to the Meadowlands, they would've won Sunday. Now is the time to experiment and work things out, so I have no problem with doing something that ended up kind of costly at this juncture in the season.

I definitely agree here big time. They had a field day with the protection schemes we called which is even easier to remember than plays. They knew where our tendencies were and knew it to such an extent they were able to feint where our protection went and then execute from weakside.

Playing one game at a time /= pulling out all the stops. In fact, BB historically has done just the opposite, bringing things along slowly and giving opponents he will see again as little film as possible.

I don't enough to say why they did what they did on Sunday. But, the old rule usually proves to be valid: KISS, as in "Keep It Simple, Stupid." All of that signalling and extra wrist-reading looked complicated to me.
