I was going to post the same thing. Edelman is already leaps and bounds ahead of Welker's rookie progress. And this is a player who has just been converted from quarterback. I would love to see both players line up on almost every play. Anyone who isn't realizing right now just how good Edelman is, as a rookie, isn't paying much attention. Just imagine if he actually knew all the routes and if Brady's timing was normal.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I was excited about a lot of things from last game. A lot of young players are really stepping up in their roles. Guyton, Wilhite, Brace, and Edelman all look they could be studs in this league. Vollmer has also been impressive in limited playing time.

Bottom line is this is one of the most talented rosters in the league. Combine that with a proven once-in-a-generation coach in Belichick and you will see that this team is mostly just rusty, especially Brady. This isn't the San Diego Chargers, this is the New England Patriots. They will put it together, and by December this will be one of the league's elite.

They will put it together, and by December this will be one of the league's elite.

I agree with this statement, and that's all well and good, etc--however we won 4 in a row in December last yr, went 11-5, and still missed the playoffs.

They have to get it together sooner than later, having AFC conference games as the majority coming up (DEN,BAL,+ divisional)

Last yr it was week 9 or 10 against the Jets and it was almost too late to recover from the loss, the Steeler game was the nail in the coffin. There is simply too much parity, especially in the AFC. Without a divisional crown, it will be tough if not impossible to get a WC slot, with the re-emergance of PGH, BAL, even CIN. You also have IND, TEN, DEN, SD, and the teams from our division who will be fighting for a WC.

While I expect December to be the usual BB dominance, I think we learned from last yr that it may be too late.

Galloway doesn't demand double teams. Gaffney sure didn't. We have Moss and Welker for that. The other guy needs to be in the right place, catch the ball and make a move after the catch. Maybe Edelman isn't ready for that, I think he probably isn't yet but we have never had 3 WR being double teamed and Gaff surely doesn't run a 4.3.

I don't see why we have to choose between one or the other. I'd like to have Moss, Galloway, Welker, and Edelman out there. Why do we need three tight ends when we only use one?

No one is afraid of, or double teaming Joey Galloway.

And if he has 4.3 speed equal or faster than Percy Harvin, etc--then I think he must be 'saving' it for a rainy day or something.

So, you wanted Edelman active so that you can run 5 WR sets with Watson as the #5? First, I don't think that we ever need to have four wide receivers on the field. In the past 4 and 5 wide receiver sets were run with Watson and Faulk. Besides, how often do you think we should run the 5 wide out formation?

Edelman is the #4 receiver unless he can run the fly route better than Galloway. And the #4 receiver is usually inactive unless he is a top special teamer. If Edelman is our returner then of course, he will always be active. Also, there are times when the #4 is active because there a so many injuries to others.

BTW, the #5 wide receiver is an illusion. He is always a special teamer who get under a half dozen receiving reps a year.

I absolutely love the kid, but with him and Welker out there together, we'd have two slot guys who can't really stretch the field - doesnt really work, but I'd still like to see it. Galloway just looks lost....

I don't think last yr really counts because of the un-established repoire that Cassel had with Gaffney, much like Watson.

Gaffney obviously had a great repoire with Brady, and the only reason we lost him is because Denver overpayed for him. I believe we paid him 1.1, and Denver is paying him 2.5 IIRC.

Gaffney would be doing just fine this yr, as he did in past yr's with Brady, doesn't matter though because he's not here.

In 2007 the offense regularly had Gaff, Moss and Welker out there. What I've been thinking is that Edelman could play the Gaff role of crisp short and intermediate routes. I don't know, maybe Galloway is better suited for it.

Honestly, I don't know if Galloway, Edelman, Aiken or even Nunn is the best for that role - although my eyes tell me it's Aiken until E or N is 100% with the playbook. What I do know is we don't need a crazy double teamed 4.3 running stud on the other side. Just a guy who gets to the right place, makes the catch and makes good decisions after the catch.
