Kinda forgot about that.

Mike Reiss' blog - Belichick gets nostalgic - ESPN Boston

Excerpt:

Unless the Patriots visit the Jets in the playoffs, Sunday's game will mark the final time Bill Belichick will coach a game at Giants Stadium.

Belichick was a bit nostalgic today on the topic (the Giants and Jets are moving to a new stadium in 2010).

Mark Farinella of the Attleboro Sun Chronicle, the longest tenured Patriots beat writer, asked Belichick his thoughts on coaching what will likely be his last game in the old stadium.

"It would be a little bit sentimental there," Belichick responded. "I was with the Giants for 12 years [1979-80] and we won a lot of football games there, a lot of big games, won some championships there. It was a great feeling with the Giants fans in what we accomplished."

Belichick said the feeling wasn't necessarily the same when he was with the Jets [1997-99].

Love the last line there, haha.

Classic BB. He really lays it down about it being GIANTS stadium and how it always felt like an away game for the Jets when he was there - - about how the Pats, Bills, Eagles would already be home by time the Jets buses got back to Hempstead.

The man is a droll genius.

That's great.

That's great.

BB continually reminds me of Indiana Jones in (I think) the first movie where he stumbles upon one of the bad guys, and the bad guy starts shrieking and juggling and flipping and threatening with nunchuks (or something) plus a lot of karate kicks in the air. Meanwhile a bored looking Jones waits for the guy to go through his schtick, then nonchalantly shoots his head off.

Well ofcourse it wouldn't be the same.

The Jets are the most laughable franchise with a lombardi, that is GIANTS stadium, etc.

Good riddance to a dump. I know dumps - I was a season ticket holder in Foxboro from 1973-75.

Giants Stadium deserves its fair share of props. It was built as a football-only structure during a time period when every single city in the country was erecting those god-awful dual-purpose stadiums. It has seen some good football (thanks to the Giants, not the Jets) through the years, and who can forget those wind tunnel field goals.

I'll always remember that regular season finale in 1996 against the Giants. The "Dave Meggett" game, IIRC.

It wouldn't surprise me that BB gave props to the Giants and not the Jets* though he worked for both teams. New Yorkers have a bad rep, but from what I hear Jets* fans are way worse than Giants fans in terms of behavior, rowdiness, etc. Then again it was a Giants fan that clocked a Chargers coach in the head with a snowball back in '95 or so.

And while I'm no fan of the Jets*, I've never given them grief about playing a stadium named after another team. The way I see it, if public funds pay for the stadium (which is definitely the case with the new one, I don't know about the current one) than I think it's great the place actually gets used more than 10 days a year. Course as we all know stadiums are used for other events like concerts, etc. But one of the chief arguments you hear from people who oppose public funding is that this enormous building is really only used 10 days (2 preseason games, 8 regular season.) Maybe 11 or 12 if the team makes the playoffs.

IMHO it's not any worse than sharing a stadium with a baseball team. Remember that before they left Shea the Jets* often had to play their first 2-3 games of the regular season on the road because the Mets always got first dibs; I think in other cities the baseball teams were more accommodating to their roommates.

What I can't understand is why you can't find a site for two or even one stadium in the world's biggest city. There are other stadiums which aren't actually in the team's "home" city, like the new Cowboys stadium in Arlington (and its predecessor in Irving), or the Buffalo Bills playing in Orchard Park, but at least they're in the same state as their home city. Unlike the Giants and Jets* (and the Redskins, come to think of it.)

Just my $.02.

P.S. I'm hoping that, like the new Spankees Stadium, the new Giants/Jets* park will turn out to have an offense-friendly flaw after construction. :D

I think it will be the Pats last game at Giant stadium, I can't see the AFC title game going thru Giants Stadium. I wonder how BB will do a send off of Giants Stadium? A win over the Jets would be a nice start!

Aside from presumably being the last game between the two in Giants Stadium, the winner will be the first to reach fifty wins in this rivalry. The Jets are 49-47-1 against the Pats in the regular season but overall the series is tied at 49-49-1; the Pats are 2-0 against the Jets in the playoffs.

Will always remember the amazing comebacks in '96. As well as Brady and Moss setting their records in '07.

I'll always remember our season opener there in '07... that was supposed to be a close game, and instead the Pats made the Jets* their rhymes-with-witch. I didn't think Randy Moss was going to be all that special as a Patriot, but OMG did he prove me wrong that day. I'll never forget that effortless TD catch he made with three defenders around him.

On a related note, I wonder how many other teams have opened and closed their seasons on the road in that stadium? Most likely if there are any they're in the AFC East or NFC East.
