Strictly rumor people. Not based on anything but my imagination.

But hear me out. If Crabtree doesn't sign, do you think BB would explore trading for him midseason and possibly offering one of our 2nd rounders next year. Obviously BB would need to be able to speak with him and come to some sort of agreement regarding the contract but I can see us doing this.

We've got a bunch of 2nd rounders, a long-term need at receiver as Moss isn't getting any younger. This might make sense assuming that a deal could be worked out w/ his agent.

First, SF isn't trading their #1 pick for a second rounder right now.

They own Crabtree's rights for the next several weeks. By week 6 or 7, they may trade.

But by then, Crabtree is probably going to take a chance on reentering the draft, since his value will be higher than anything Belichick will want to give him.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

even after trading big Sey, they can't afford him.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

1. Rookie Cap.
2. If he won't take top 10 money from SF, why should he take second round money from NE?
3. What value does this receiver offer NE?
4. Ten cent head on a multi-millions dollar body, doesn't sound like NE material.

Crabtree can't be traded until March 10th

We barely gave that kind of money to Randy Moss, a proven elite veteran WR, who caught 23 TD's and took us to the Super Bowl. How would they even consider paying the money Crabtree is wanting/expecting, in the range of 9 mill/per?

He hasn't done anything at all, and the 1st rd bust rate is rather high for NFL players. I don't think we'd pay a proven NFL talent like Boldin, Holmes, Jennings, etc that kind of money, and they'd obviously improve the team greatly.

Much like the Peppers rumors, it's not what it'd take to get them here, it's how do we pay them when we give up the pick(s)?

Although it's doubtful, but Crabtree could simply be another Chad Jackson. A real good college WR with promising talent who goes in the first 35 picks, but never even comes close to actually producing at a pro level. Just look at all of the 1st rd busts over the years who never did anything.

Plus he's a attention loving, prima donna--quickly living up to that reputation.

Unproven in the NFL, sitting out actual games when his team needs him and wants big guaranteed money above his draft slot? Yeah, I am sure he's on his way to Foxboro to sign the contract right now. He'll be the guy with the big white beard in a red suit flying on a sleigh drawn by the Easter Bunny and Sasquatch.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

I'm sure the Patriots could be interested in Crabtree...once he re-enters the draft and falls to round 3 beacuse no team is willing to take a high-pick risk on that turd.

He'd probably still demand top 5 money though.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

Who the hell would want Crabtree anyway?? That guy's got major attitude problems. Id want nothing to do with him. Diva, diva, diva. Just a nightmare waiting to happen. I have a feeling he'll either sign a late deal with the Niners or somehow he'll end up on the Cowboys. And what better place for him than that?

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

Let's see, overpriced, no NFL experience, personal "issues"...yeah, he's the kind of guy the Pats go after.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

Crabtree??? More like a nightmare...not any GOOD fantasy... he wants money..LOTS of it for...what?? I think teams are at a risk taking him..and how much will his playing diminish after a year out?? Let's see what his times are in 5 months....he's really shooting himself in the foot...bad advice from his agent..

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

I don't think Belichick likes to have idiots on his team.

Re: Patriots interest in Crabtree?

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, PLEASE....

His Agent is Eugene Parker!

Discussion, speculation, and case closed. This will never happen.

He fails Patriots Player Requirement Rule #1: Football must be central focus of his life....not money

I don't think any other team could sign him anyway, because they would be restricted by using up their rookie pool allotment on their own players. Plus, if he doesn't sign by week 10 he won't sign this year, as he would count against next year's rookie pool (there is still a rookie pool, even though there is no cap). That would make him real hard for anyone to sign, which makes it almost certain he would re-enter the draft.

There is precedence for a player holding out an entire season and being traded in the spring. In 1987, the Cardinals used the sixth overall pick on Kelly Stouffer, who then sat out the entire season. In April, just prior to the 1988 draft, the Cards traded Stouffer's rights in exchange for a fifth-rounder that season and a first- and fifth-rounder in the 1989 draft. Here is an article about it.

With the draft cap for rookies, it would be impossible to give him that contract.

These players are strictly slotted.

The problem here occurred in the first place because Al Davis overplayed and overpaid a few slots above Crabtree.

Wow, the Cardinals made out like bandits on that trade.
