"I got a great deal of respect for how Belichick plays defense and coaches defense," said Ryan. "I've stolen from him in the past. We have a Patriot coverage I stole from him. . ."

From an interview on NY radio today.

Haha. This guy is great.

You know, you just can't make up stuff this good.. :)

No suprises there...that whole orginazation is obviously full of dirty cheaters. It's starts at the Wooden One and goes all the way down to the players.

I wonder if the Jets* are stupid enough to use them against the patriots this week?

suspended drug addicts........coach who cheats.......former coach lied......
Welcome folks to your New Jersey Jets* Football Team.

He admits to stealing and nothing will happen, turn the tables and the Patriots would be fined and out draft picks

Give me a break. I hate the Jesters as much as the next guy; but Ryan saying he "stole" from BB is obviously a euphamism.

I mean taking a coverage/blitz scheme that was used and displayed on PUBLIC TV for the whole world to see is not exactly like he snuck in a copy boy into Patriots complex to go into BB's office and photocopy the playbook.

I don't see what any accusation of 'cheating' here is that should cause any outrage. Think about it - 'highest form of compliment is to copy someone else'.

The whole Ryan clan are a bunch of drunken hillbillies.

if you think theres something wrong about what ryan said there, i dont know what to tell you. i hope youre being sarcastic

I'm pretty sure there is nothing wrong with using another team's plays. Otherwise every team that has run a Wildcat offense would be fined.

Oh yeah we're going to see a lot of this come Next Sunday when Ryan falls flat on his face after pumping the game as the Jeats's personal superbowl.

The Jets will now have to have an * by all their Super Bowl and AFC Championships that they have won since the merger in 1970.

What's that you say? The haven't won any? OK, never mind.

Looks like a good copy and paste day.

Every coach in the league steals from other coaches. There's no patenting schemes, and a coach's job is to give his team the best chance he can to win. It would be irresponsible for a coach not to 'steal', and I'm sure Belichick does it all the time. Ryan's may be one of the only guys in the league with the candor (for better and for worse) to admit it, but I doubt that anyone would even bother to deny it.

Does anyone think that Belichick invented the 2-gap 3-4 base defense? Of course not. Every coach in the league is building upon, refining, and innovating systems that other coaches originally developed. And that's not just football- that's true for every career in every walk of life. I consider it a compliment to Belichick on Ryan's part that he consider's Bill a good person to 'steal' from.

Note: I think that using the term 'steal' for this is kinda stupid, honestly. 'Use' would be just as accurate, without the negative connotations.

Nothing is truly original in football. Sure, there are nuances and minor permutations, but generally everything is stolen. It's how the game evolves. Nothing wrong with what Rex said. When a team does something effective, the victim of that will often take that and incorporate it into their gameplan.

All businessmen steal from each other. So do writers, artists, journalists, scientists, politicians, and everyone else who has any ambition whatsoever. Get over it.

And drop the "Jeats" ****. It's making us look bad.

Perhaps you could PM myself and the other mods a list of what is making "us" look bad.

I have always preferred the names Jets or Jesters, but that's me. Hope that it doesn't make you look bad that I use those names.
