BostonHerald.com - Blogs: Rap Sheet Blog Archive No sign of linebacker Jerod Mayo at Patriots practice

That's a quick healer! I guess the injury must have been different than it looked?

Colleague Ian Rapoport also reports that special teams ace Matthew Slater, who suffered what appeared a horrific elbow injury in the final preseason game against the Giants, was at practice for the first time since that game, and took part in special teams drills.

Also of note, quarterback Brian Hoyer, special teams captain Sam Aiken, safeties Brandon McGowan and Bret Lockett and practice squad quarterback Isaiah Stanbach wore black jerseys, signifying they were practice players of the week for last week.

Holy Crap, thought he was gone for the year...

Maybe I've watched too much True Blood, but my first assumption was that Slater used V to heal himself.

Maybe we can hope he passes Lafayette's number on to Mayo.

Maybe he took a tip from Robert Johnson, and made a midnight visit to the crossroads.....

Well, if Slater can come back after a week off, maybe Mayo will be practicing tomorrow.

Oh christ, here come the Count ***ula shows :D

maybe he's actually Gumby?

More to the point...if Slater isnt hurt is Meriweather playing on ST?? If he isnt do we cause that fumble,etc..? All the ST looked pretty good last night(except for the missed FG), in fact I dont remember a game in the past year + where they looked BETTER! Coincidence??

Assuming you are talking about the coverage teams, especially KO coverage, I would base the change on a rule change, not necessarily the players on the field.

Not to mention additions like McGowan, that new DB from Cleveland (forget the name) and TBC.

Slater's miraculous return makes you realize that Hobbs was right. That malingering Brady was SUCH a girly mon.

Maybe we should start a thread of Matthew Slaterisms:D

I would say coincidence they played better but also I doubt Slater makes the same play Merriweather did....And I ask was Merriweather running down in Slaters position? it is possible that they both are on the Kick Coverage team.

I am one of the big Slater supporters on here but I still am not thrilled when he gets the ball in his hand so my bigger concern with his returning from injury is if he takes his regular spot as the lead blocker on kick returns than when they angle away from Maroney he will be where Faulk was .

anyway glad to have him back. Even if he isnt fully healthy for this one his practicing certainly indicates its not as bad as it looked and he is our best gunner so that will be huge.

This makes a lot of sense. What did NOT make sense was the Slater was on the roster with idea of him playing half the year as a gunner.

I look for Lockett to be waived when Slater is ready to play.

Possible he is double jointed in the elbow?

He has had 12 days since the injury...might have just needed rest and will be back against the Falcons.
