Without getting into a full breakdown I noticed Light getting beat early and often. Jaws screwed up, he was pointing out Vollmer at RT on the 6 man line. He was at LT and Light was at RT. Light was AWFUL on those plays and getting beat for both a sack and that INT TD by Schobel makes you wonder if he is healthy. He did get up slow a couple times, but he looked slow in pulling and HIS GUY made the tackle about 2/3of the time it wasnt thrown downfield. In the 2nd half they had both TEs and backs chipping Schobel on the way to their routes but I have to think thats the reason why we didnt dare go deep. No time.

I have a news flash for you: Schoebel owns Light, always has.

Light cannot block Schoebel without help. That is a fact that dante had to deal with. Light always needs help in the Buffalo game.

Yup, things actually got a little easier for Light when Kelsey went out.

I thought Vollmer looked good when Light was pulled out for a few plays, I know it was a short sample but a good sign. I saw him play at the University of Houston, and hes a huge dude, and can move. Great Pick.

Jeff - You've been one of those people who have always had a thing against Light. Schoebel has always been able to beat Light. That being said, holding Schoebel to 1 sack is pretty good. It's not like Schoebel is some schmuck DE.

Also, I noticed Light at the Left TE position next to Vollmer more often than not in the 6 O-line sets.

Also, I think you are full of it it regards to your claim that it was Light's man making the tackles because Ellison (the guy who led the Bills in tackles) wasn't Light's assignment.

Yes, I noticed the line play. I noticed that Light, for the most part, took Schoebel wide and kept him away from Brady most of the game. I noticed that Kaczur did a good job as well. I noticed that Koppen continues to get pushed around on the inside and really couldn't handle Kyle Williams. I noticed that Mankins and Neal were both pretty shoddy in their run blocking. And they're supposed to be our best run blockers.

I totally agree. Light has the same problem with Freeney and Jason Taylor.
In fact most tackles have problems with those guys. It does seem that Light is slower than in the past, but he's another guy that's getting older too.
Light did much better in the second half when Schoebel started to tire out.
Brady had much more time in the fourth quarter than earlier.

Since they're almost always in pass protect mode, and especially now that Brady was hurt, are really trying to keep the pocket clean, I don't expect them to immediately get into running game mode for one play.

Koppen is small as far as centers go, so we can expect he'll get pushed around.
This Sunday will be a real test for him, if last years Jets games are any indication.

I guess you got to go back to noticing better. I have NEVER posted a single bad thing on Light, feel free to check every post I have ever made. Second, in EVERY 6 man line Light played RT inside Kaczur, go look at the tape. I dont think holding someone to one sack(lets not forget the INT for a TD either!)is a GOOD game. If every lineman held their guy to only 1 sack a game....thats 5 sacks, thats NOT a good game.
As far as missing blocks, every time Light pulled he missed his guy and/or HIS guy made the tackle. That includes the quick screens when he was on Whitner or other DBs. You could see in his body language that he was frustrated because even when he did make a decent block the RB would cut right into his guy and get tackled. Again, check the tape.
The rest of the line did OK, thats why Light's play stood out. Back to noticing things, I do notice that you talk &^%$ every time you follow my post. You do to other people as well, so you are that type of guy. In this case you have your "facts" wrong and I am tired of it. Stop talking out of your butt and dont put lies in other people's mouths to make yourself look smart as it only makes you look like a punk. White you are fact checking MY downplaying Light notice YOUR downplaying ME.

He didn't say holding somebody to one sack is a good game for a lineman. He said holding a guy of Aaron Schobel's caliber to 1 sack is a good game and overall it probably is. Maybe not good, but not horrible either.

IF he had held him to one sack it wouldnt be a BAD game(he said "pretty good game") but in case you missed it Light was sitting on his rear when Schobel was running the INT back for a TD. His fault, not entirely, but at least tackle the guy you missed a block on! Vollmer looked OK, but they never went his way. But looking at the side by side plays with Light RT and Kaczur RTE...Kaczur looked ALOT better.

I gotta say that i've felt that whole OL has never really got over SB42. Even at the start of last year they really struggled, not all Cassell's sacks were due to his holding on to the ball too long

Saying that by the end of last year the whole OL had stepped up so maybe it just a progression thing but I do worry that the speed/athleticism that made our smaller tackles and centre such a good 'team' is wearing down as they age and we may struggle this year because of it. You cant be that poor for 3 quarters waiting for defenses to tire because you give Manning, Brees, Rivers, even Pennington that sort of time and were done. Ditto you have to learn to run block better as a QB throwing 50 passes a game isnt an option

I know its been said but it almost looks as if we dont call any deep routes as we cant give TB the time to make the throws

So put me in the 'slightly' concerned category

Aaron Schobel's best year was 14 sacks, so holding him to one a game is still below average in his best year. Most years, hes had about 8.

That, and it wasn't just a sack. Light also got called for a 10 yard holding penalty, and a 10/15 yard tripping penalty. He got abused by Schobel, which is normal. He has a TON of trouble with the guy.

You do know how a screen pass works right? Light wasn't supposed to block Schobel on that play.

We will see how he does this week, but it's not surprising that Light got abused by Schobel. In addition, there were times that Maybin was running right around Light and forcing Brady to throw a quick pass. Last but not least, the effort on that screen pass was icing on the cake for me. I don't know what the hell happened but Light really needs to get it together because Vollmer played very well in limited duty.

On a screen pass, the OT is supposed to get into the DEs legs. Even if the DE doesn't go down, he has to use his hands to avoid the cut block, thus no being able to bat down the pass. Light did a very poor job on attempting the cut block. That said, Shobel made a great play.

You8 clearly don't know wtf you are talking about. Light wasn't on his rear end when Schoebel made the one handed interception. Schoebel had pushed Light back away from him, but Light wasn't on the ground..

No, sorry, that wasn't Light's fault. There is no where in any coaching manual for the O-line that says you keep your man from making an interception on an Ill-advised throw..

And Light didn't miss the block on Schoebel on that play either. Again, you love to make things up. People have taken you to task for that in the past.

Gotta agree. I've always been a big Light supporter, but this past week he was just the weak link in the OL. In addition to the above, he blew the 4th and inches play as Box correctly points out in his break down. He absolutely couldn't block Shobel. And he actually had significant problems in the run game as well. Every time he had to make a block on the second level, he didn't. I don't think we'll be seeing Light as the 3rd TE for much longer if he doesn't improve there.

Having re-watched the game and having gone frame by frame through that play, I did not see where Light "tripped" Schoebel. I believe it was another one of those phantom calls that the refs made during the game. Much like the Roughing the Passer against Wilfork.

The only problem is that, if that was supposed to be a screen pass, why weren't Mankins and Koppen out in front of Morris.. I believe Morris was Brady's Safety Valve option on the play and that the Play was not a screen like the announcers called.

Jaws claimed Light was attempting to cut block, but I don't recall NE OTs using cut blocks to set up the screen, generally they let the DE push them back to the QB. Re-watching this play it looked like Schobel just got Light off balance and he fell, but instead of rushing Tom, Schobel read the screen and camped in the throwing lane. Tom may or may not have recognized the danger, he did try to get some loft to that ball, but Kyle Williams came off Mankins with a full head of steam and Brady had no time to spare. It was a super play by Schobel.
