I believe Jim Nantz and Phil Simms covered the Jets/Texans game. Think they'll cover our game? The only other CBS marquee game might be Pittsburgh at Chicago at 3:15.

Tough to say. Nantz and Simms are considered to be CBS' #1 crew, right? But wouldn't they typically use their #1 crew on it's headline late game?

Here are the CBS crews:
Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf
**** Enberg, Dan Fouts
Kevin Harlan, Solomon Wilcots
Ian Eagle, Rich Gannon
Gus Johnson, Steve Tasker
Don Criqui, Randy Cross
Bill Macatee, Steve Beuerlein

Here are the CBS week two games:
4:15 - Steelers at Bears
4:15 - Ravens at Chargers
4:15 - Browns at Broncos
1:00 - Pats at Jets
1:00 - Texans at Titans
1:00 - Bengals at Packers
1:00 - Raiders at Chiefs

My guess would be Gumbel/Dierdorf or Enberg/Fouts. I'm guessing CBS will have Nantz and Simms do the Pittsburgh at Chicago game.

I'd take Gus Johnson over anybody, that's one excited guy!

My guess is no. Usually when a network has the double-header, they send their #1 crew to the best late game because that's the one that the majority of the country will get.

I'd say Gumbel and Dierdorf, if I remember from last season they did a lot of there early games.

#1 media market game, a top team in the league, a "rising star" vs. aging face of the league, national appeal- I find it hard to believe they would go with anyone but Nantz/Simms for the Patriots/Jets game.

Agreed. I think Jim Nantz is pure class, and Phil Simms is one of the best play by play guys. I hope we draw them. I think we will.

I think I remember hearing Gus Johnson on the dan patrick show.
He mentioned the game was he was working this week, but it wasn't ours, unfortunately :(

checked the web site and we have Gumbal and Dierdorf...

You're comparing apples to oranges. If CBS considered the Pats-Jets to be their #1 game, then it would be on at 4:15 rather than at 1:00. It wouldn't make sense to put their top broadcast team on a game that relatively few would see. There are so many other regional games on at 1, compared to just a few at 4:15, that far more fans will see the late game. New York may indeed be the biggest television market, but Chicago is right up there too. Plus, the Steelers have a big fan base - especially outside of their home market - and being the defending champs they are going to draw in a lot of casual fans who normally only watch other teams.

And the Patriots and Jets wouldn't be a huge draw?

Weren't there some complaints last year about hte Patriots being stuck with late and/or national games early in the year that were causing some problems or fatigue?

Again, two different topics.

Yes, I want the Pats to play as many 1:00 games as possible and as few late or night games as possible. That gives the coaches more time to prepare for the next game, and the players have more time to heal and prepare also.

The question is 'which game will the network send their #1 broadcast team to cover'? The answer is their primary late game, as that is broadcast into far more homes than any early regional game.

It's not a case of the Pats-Jets being a better game than the Steelers-Bears. It's a case of the Pats-Jets being broadcast into 1/6 of the US, plus being up against the Fox game, as opposed to the Pit-Chi game being broadcast into 1/2 of the US and having almost no competition.

Pit-Chi is one of five different games at that time, two games which feature longstanding teams with huge fan bases. Where did you get that they had already decided to put them in one of the late games?

NFL TV Distribution Maps

Based on that, I'd bet that the Pit/Chi game will get the #1 team, and Pats/Jets will get #2. Pumped that L.A. is showing the Pats next week.

As some one said above, the Pat's website indicates we have Gumbel & Dierdork this weekend.

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!

Thank God, cuz I hate Jim "Hello Friends!" Nantz. I wish they'd find someone who didn't suck to pair up with Simms.
