Hard to believe that BB passed on this guy not once, but twice and could have literally stolen him at the top of round two. I went nuts on draft day when he by passed him (twice) and I still shake my head on what he didn't see in this guy.

First game starting for the Bengals (8 tackles, 4 solo - and will get better week after week), a play making blitzer that would have fit perfectly in our defense with Mayo. Now look at our LB situation ? A real head scratcher back in April.

Who the **** posts this thread after last night's game?

Just because he fits on the Bengals doesn't mean he's a good fit in the Patriot's system.

How freakin' hard a concept is this for people to understand? Did you even watch the game, or are you just looking at the stat line?

Because he likes Mayo and Guyton? We needed depth at LB and S, we went with Chung. If Sanders had gone down and we had Malauga you'd be complaining that we didn't have any S depth. Riddle me this....

He drafted an ILB (McKenzie) in the 3rd. Unfortunately he is on IR. Nothing you can do about that.

Every player does not fit our system, do not know a lot about him regarding his ability to grasp our system.. but our O and D configurations require a very high level of intelligence.. BB has a specific size in mind when he drafts for the positions of the front 7.

Not only that, but the word was that BB and the gang considered McKenzie comparable to Maualuga and get better value drafting him later. Unfortunately, he got hurt.

Why do people keep saying this? Who cares what Maualuga did for the Bengals? I don't. He's a free lancer. He has trouble digesting the play-books.

To say that he'd fit "perfectly" is such a crock and shows a lack of knowledge about the player in question and the defense you want to insert him into.

1) All players who play for other teams are really not much good, and wouldn't do well for us. :)

2) McGowan is much better able to start than Chung, so the comment about an injury to a safety is not very relevant.

3) I too would have preferred an ILB to Chung. In the end, I guess If Mayo or Guyton were to be injured, we'd see Thomas move inside. Note that we don't know whether McKenzie will play inside. He is an OLB after all.

4) Maualuga is dumber than dirt and would not be able to understand the complex system that the patriots run.

McKenzie was drafted as an ILB. He was playing ILB in the OTAs when he tore his ACL..

Saying that he was drafted as an OLb doesn't make it so. Scout had him as the #7 OLB in the country.

And sure, he played ILB in the OTA's. He wasn't getting any reps this year unless it was at ILB. So perhaps Belichick expects to convert him. We'll see.

I have to agree on this somewhat. Though I love Chung, and think he may be a great leader in the secondary in the future, I think Maualuga is gonna a special player, and we may have screwed the pooch on this one. Just because BB has a draft system doesn't always mean he is always correct in his choices, (see Bethel f@cking Johnson instead of Anquan Boldin, Garret Mills and David Thomas instead of various star players still available). Just because we don't draft someone, doean't mean they couldn't have fit into the system. We will never know, though it sure would be nice to have Maualuga as insurance right now if Mayo is seriously hurt (in my book, if you miss ANY games, that's a serious injury). Time will tell, but guys like Maualuga and Laurenitis may become stars (or may not), who could have been improving our defense RIGHT now, while Chung sits on the bench as a 3rd stringer.

Maualuga can barely read, and you want him calling signals? Laurinitis is a differennt issue. He was my personal choice for upgrading inside. I'm sure there are those who are happier with Alexander or those who think McKenzie would have converted to ILB in one preseason.

How do they say it again on this site?............Seau and L.Taylor say hello.
The man isn't too far from wrong so your sarcasm is ill centered. The Maualuga kid will have a stellar career. Yep, one game ain't Canton but I like the chip he carries.
Your response should have been "look at how many teams passed on TB and we did not" as your better smart alec "know-it-all" comment,... Mr. Expert Knowledge.
How long did it take Merriweather to get the play book?

I just wish that Maualuga was available in next year's draft so Belichick could not draft him one more time.

Well Guyton was a OLB in the draft too. Thomas was playing ILB last night.....and looked TOTALLY gassed in the 2nd half. Bottom line, we didnt do enough to replace Bruschi in the offseason. Mckenzie went down EARLY, no one was brought in to replace him(if he was the answer to Bruschi).

Lets go back to all 9 Belichick drafts and talk about who we could have taken. That sounds fun...........no not really.

Yup, here we go with these type of threads............

We took Chung instead of Maualuga. OK. I get that.

Watch this one.....Did anyone see if Sanders was playing his usual stellar game last night?

Not that anyone cares, I thought a guy played well who I am not a fan of was Watson. Yep, he dropped one but he did make plays.

Others with good nights and bad I thought were:
Bodden-He was solid
Merriweather-Getting better
Faulk-He is good
TBC-Not a big fan but he was about our best pass rush
Kaczur-No news was good news
A.Thomas-He appeared very slow to me. I thought he was a speed guy freek for his size? Maybe he is better suited as ILB now? He made some good run stops but his coverage was weak. Maualuga or not we need to step up ILB play. I agree he would have helped.
Butler almost had an INT.
Galloway is lost. I could have played WR and been as productive. Do any of you think Edelman or Aiken should get more reps and start? How about Nunn off the PS? As least he can return kicks. I think there are street guys that can produce more than Galloway at less money. Yep, only one game but this guy is a vet.
Guyton was decent but 4 tackles he has to improve big time if Mayo is out.
Where was Jarvis Green?
Ninkovich-looked like he was getting it and had a few reps
Moss and Welker-Got it going.
McGowan had some reps and looked like he knew what he was doing.
Thought the ST play was decent.

If Mayo is out a few games do we resign Lennon? We are way too thin at ILB, so yes Maualuga could have helped!

Next week the blue print to stop the Jets in my opinion is to double on Cotchery like they did T.O. (Sanchez is looking for him to make plays and he always kills us) , Don't let their TE off the line and shadow little Leon with at least a Safety, not Guyton if Mayo is out.
