How Many Had Buried Watson????

Watson is what he's always been. He's a speedy, athletic receiving tight end who threatens the middle of the field. He has an occasional drop, but some of his early drops were actually tips that ended up in the hands of the defenses, so he's gotten a bad reputation about his hands. They're fine, though not spectacular.

He's not a great blocker, but he never has been. As a 4th or 5th weapon on a team, though.....

Moss
Welker
RB
Galloway/Watson

That's a hell of a lot of problems for opposing defenses.

His reputation has suffered because he's been a quality tight end instead of being the next T.G. or Antonio Gates, and anything less than All Pro material is considered a dismal failure by too many here. I always preferred Graham, but that's because I like tight ends who can block like linemen, and that's certainly not Watson's fault. He's not Ben Coates, but not many are.

Nobody on this board would even complain about him, if he was a 3rd rd pick. His 1st rd status, and a couple dropped balls, make him the antichrist

where is that poster who said watson and maroney would never play a meaningful snap for the pats again?

Watson has great talent.. let's hope it puts it all together this year.

apatrioticvirginian. Carried that quote around in my sig for months just waaiting for this :p

What a lucky win for you guys. Next week won't be gift-wrapped for you.

dont be so sure, the jets know how to lose just as much as the bills do

great great game by Benjamin and i'm very happy for him ! great: well done # 84 !

I sat and laughed at myself last night. I went from b*tching and moaning that he'll never be the dependable pass catching tight end that he should be to screaming his praises after the 2 TD's.:D:D:D

Most prominent among the hoard burying Watson was Freaking Felger. 98.5 made a huge mistake hiring him; he is so obnoxious that I am almost tempted to listen to WEEI...OK, not that bad but I am tempted when I listened he nasty, mean-spirited, ill-informed rants.

What gets lost are those 3-4 excellent blocks (including a textbook one lining up as the FB on the Fred Taylor touchdown).

People will (for good reason) talk about the recpetions, but Ben had a COMPLETE game out there last night.

My opinion on Watson hasn't changed whatsoever. He's a really athletic, really fast, TE that has improved in his blocking. His biggest problem is being a consistent receiver. Last night, he was once again inconsistent as he dropped an EASY catch. Fortunately, he caught two big ones at the end of the game.

One game isn't enough to judge him this season. Once he strings together a few games of consistent catches and no easy drops, then I'll say that he's getting better.

With all this said, that second TD catch was absolutely fantastic. Very reminiscent of the Patten catch from the SB.
