I believe that if a veteran is signed in week 2 as opposed to week 1 the contract is not guaranteed. This may lead to a few roster tweaks, some possibilities include:

Garcia, Feeley, Kevin Carter, Derrick Brooks

Slater could be IRed or a bubble player gets let go.

After reading the article today in the Globe on how Mayo is trying to be Derrick Brooks, combined with our thin LB depth, I say try to bring him in. And if we are going to play more 4man fronts, that would be a better scheme for Brooks.

The others I wouldnt really want/expect.
Garcia would freelance too much.
Feeley I just dont think has it.
I think BB brings in carter in case of injury, but I think giving our current DL(Wright, Brace, Pryor) would be more beneficial long term.

I fully expect them to bring in a veteran QB to be the #2 QB. Other than that, I don't think there will be any moves barring injuries.

Both Wendell and Connolly could be cut in favor of a QB and a LB. I also think that there is a outside chance that we sign an OT, perhaps Britt.

Not to be facetious, but why did they cut Britt in the first place, then?

There was a lot of playing with the roster. Belichick needed to keep an extra interior linemen, then TWO extra interior linemen. Also, he didn't want to pay Britt for the whole year when he only expects to need him for 5-7 weeks, until LeVoir is back.

Garcia apparently asked for his release in Oakland. He was their #2 behind Russell... He's not coming here, nor would he be of much use if he did. He's got no mentor in him, never did have. He either starts or he pouts and instigates. And he has no success in this type of system. Feeley couldn't hang on as the #3 on a team that drafted him, traded him to Miami so he could start, and took him back after SD had no use for him. And again his experience has been to back up guys who pull offense out of their ass.

If they add someone it will be a veteran with some background similarity including as a decent one. The guy who will help mentor Hoyer and be willing to bust his ass to be ready to go in cold on short notice if the unmentionable happens. A guy with the experience to run a difference making AFC scout team as well, perhaps. Not your long term replacement but your short term bridge.

I'm foucsed on week 1. Anyone one wanna talk about the bills? Week 1? Buffalo? Anyone?

You are certainly entitled to believe that a Belichick doesn't want a veteran who could actually lead a team.

We can get a practice player to lead the scout team, or Hoyer can.

We can get (we should already have them) coaches to mentor Hoyer, if that is a high priority.

What we need most is to secure a high-value backup should the unmentionable happen. If the veteran can't lead a team, then don't bother. Just have Vinny come in as an occasional coach to give pointers to Hoyer.

BTW, I don't know if Garcia has anything left in the tank.

Finally something we agree on...given 21st century history and all. Belichick sees value in developing his backups. You see :scared:

Cross off Garcia, Feeley... anything coming up this week?

Supposedly, Chicago is in "contract negotiations" with Derrick Brooks.

I think Kevin Carter will decide to retire if he hasn't decided to do so already.

I can understand Chicago's interest in Brooks. It's too bad what happened to Urlacher.

But we need a MLB/ILB, too; because if anyone believes that Gary Guyton is the answer, then they've been asked the wrong question.

2 easy moves which will clear a spot for a MLB/ILB: IR Slater, and release Wendell (my choice) or Connelly.
