SFGate: Raiders Silver and Black Blog : Update: Al Davis steals the show

Davis couldn't resist crashing the press conference Saturday where Seymour was introduced as the Raider in No. 92. He wanted to make it clear Seymour always wanted to play for the Raiders.
i always felt this ego of davis and image of his raiders was too important for him to tell the pats to take seymour back and get their pick back and was never going to happen.it wouldve been a slap in the face of the raiders.

another interesting quote
"Randy Moss was great here for us. We couldn't satisfy Randy, that was our fault. He's a truly great player. The idea when you get a great player is to make him happy and satisfy him.

Seymour: "Oh, Toto, I guess we're not in Foxboro anymore".

Man, I just read the link.

How did he feel being a GUEST at Al Davis' press conference????

Seymour should have turned around and told him to shut up. I bet Raider fans can't wait until Big Al finally kicks the bucket.

Chances of Sey signing an extention with them?

Davis said all these Patriots deals in recent years involved him and Belichick on the phone, then mentioned he almost hired Belichick in 1999.

According to Davis, team CEO Amy Trask wanted Belichick but Davis wanted Jon Gruden. We all know who won that one.
Bonnie Bernstein?:D

 ... Toto ... great line ... "There's no place like home, there's no place like home"

What I don't get is how many days does it take to click your heels 3 times?

Ding, Ding, we have a winner :)

Raiders

There's the video (link above) of Seymour speaking for 5 plus minutes. He says that he's happy to be a Raider and that it was a shock that took time to get over after the trade. He stated that he grew up a Raider fan and coming out of college he hoped to get drafted by a Southern or west coast team....
He did say that when he got drafted the Patriots were 5-11 and it took time and hard work to get success.
I noted that he thanked Mr. Kraft and his teammates but he omitted.......the press (just kidding)...I didn't hear Belichick thanked in the clip i heard....
Seymour mentioned that he played in 4 Super Bowls and won three of them, " we won't talk about the one we lost" and Al Davis jumped in with
it all started with the Tuck game" Think the guy is still bitter???
He said all the right things and I as a Pats fan thank him for all his years of paly and wish him luck ( well, not too much as I'd like a high pick in 2011)

--One day [Patriots coach Bill Belichick] said to me about two days before we made the trade, 'Would you be interested in Seymour?' I didn't put the phone down or anything, I said 'Yeah I'd be interested in Seymour.' I said 'What do you want'? and he told me what he wanted for him. And I said I would do that.
"Bill said to me he has to check with [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft. I laughed because I thought all coaches had complete ability to do what they wanted. It's only this place where they have to go to the owner if they want to do something. So, he said he had to go to Kraft and he came back to me. They changed the deal a little bit, and then they gave me the opportunity to make my choice on draft choices.
"As you well know in 2010 we have a first, second, two thirds, a fourth and two fifths. We have a lot of choices. I said I'll go with the 1 in 2011. I'll stick with that. That's what you can have. I just wanted to get it done."----

He still thinks he's a bad ass owner who rules the league. I'm sure BB was on his knees giving you whatever you asked for Al.

Al's playing checkers and the Kraft/BB team is playing chess. Does anybody really believe that Al Davis considered that there might be a rookie scale in 2011 but not in 2010, making the draft picks in 2010 a higher potential quality( as many underclassman come out) but a better value long term in 2011?

Are you freakin' kidding me?! Al Davis, the queen of overruling and second-guessing his "head" coaches, is mocking Belichick for talking a trade over with Kraft? Now I've heard everything. What a buffoon.

I watched the Rams/Pats superbowl yesterday and Seymour was an absolute beast in that game. He is clearly one of the reasons we won 3 championships as he was an key part of the aggressive defenses we had in those SB years. I wish him the best.

If this is true, I'd love to know BB's initial demands. Any guesses?

Seymour should have turned around and told him to shut up. I bet Raider fans can't wait until Big Al finally kicks the bucket.

Oddly it's about 50/50. We have one in the family and he said about 4 years ago they were just treading water until Al gets planted. But the other 50% still believe that Al is the father of winning football and the rest of us just mock him because he's a little down on his luck lately...

So basically Al admitted he's been chasing a DL from the Patriots since the draft. Probably saw BB's collection growing and couldn't fathom what he'd do with them all unless he was planning on flipping someone. And by the time camp ended BB was looking at the numbers and thinking for the right price perhaps he could.

Gotta love Al's dig at his critics portrayal of the way his runs things as different from NE...BB has full control here but he and this owner also have genuine mutual respect that willingly flows both ways and dictates one never leaves the other out of the loop or worries about who gets the credit. Al should try that sometime. Might land him another HOF HC.

Al sounds a little worried about Cable's situation. He left a turd floating in the bowl after he flushed Kiffen, and in hindsight it has the potential to undermine his latest attempt to find a remotely competent HC willing to put up with his ****. Cable seems like a genuinely nice guy, when he's not driven to distraction, trying his darndest to accomplish a impossible task.

Meanwhile like Milloy and Law before him, Richard has now found the perfect place to test the talent vs. system theory. After all once he landed here on a 5-11 team they turned it around in a hurry...

I believe Lombardi had it as a second and a fifth in 2010. But Al was reluctant to part with the 2nd and offered the 1st in 2011 instead.

I can see that, because Al prolly thinks that, with 93, the Raiders will be a much better team and be lower in the draft order. I can't see them changing that quickly, but who knows?

The most baffling thing about the whole beyond drama was Richard is playing for his salary. He asked, not demanded mind you, for a no tag clause and/or a long term deal and got told... NO. As long as he stays healthy that is a best case scenario for him. Al finally lands a legit talent and opts for once not to lock it up and overpay it by millions...LOL

I took it differently, mocking the media for making it seem that only he ( Davis) had control over day to day matters. He was tweeking them saying essentially, "see Kraft does it also and Belichick has to answer to him"..

BB is the one who actually picked him instead of david terrell etc. Ron borges who is such a pal with seymour now actually criticized the pick. Seymour can thank whoever he wants but BB is part of his success and status also.

yeah i thought the same. everyone always hears davis runs the show. he is merely pointing it out that its the same everywhere. he conviniently misses that an owner and coach were talking on the phone for the trade and not two owners and two coaches.
