Sorry if this was already discussed, I just didn't notice it since the Seymour trade kinda took over the news for us recently. I was just wondering if the recent FREE AGENT AJ Feeley would be a good pickup for the Pats. I know this was talked about earlier as a trade possibility but now that he was released by the Eagles, hopefully BB jumps right in and brings him aboard. I think he is the best available QB out there right now and would be a good fit. Jeff Garcia is backup option, but I don't think he will be as effective in our offense. Any rumors where Feeley would like to sign?

It was discussed on Monday when Feeley was released. It doesn't look like the Pats are going to bring in another QB just year. Other than Stanbeck who is on the PS.

Potentially Huard after week 1 or 2 (when we don't have to guarentee squat. More likely then Feeley as at least Huard knows the system.

I still hope for a couple of additions after Monday. It is after Monday that we can add veteran free agents without guaranteeing their salary for the entire year. Options are a backup QB, an ILB and and OT. Huard, Lenon and Britt are all possibilties. There are many others.

We have talked about how strong the roster was. However, at the bottom, even now it is realatively easy to free up two positions. We have two extra guards on the 53-man squad.

If you're going off what Caserio said earlier this week, I wouldn't take that as an acknowledgment that the Pats plan to stick with two QBs, or with three QBs (Brady, Hoyer, Stanback). All they said is they'll see how Stanback progresses, not that he would eventually be QB3.

Personally, I think a veteran backup will likely happen, but it's not definite.

I believe a veteran QB is likely around November. Feeley if available would be okay, I don't think Walter is completely out of the picture yet, Huard may be an option. I don't see Garcia.

Huard or Walter should be the preferred options as they are most familiar with the offense. Though, I suppose Walter gets the edge as the offense has changed since Huard has been here.

I agree with both of your Feeley & Walter selections, but if BB were to do that, why wait so long? It's a known fact that it takes a while to learn this system.

Let's try one more time. Any veteran that is signed before Monday will have his salary guaranteed for the entire season. Any veteran signed after that dates gets no guarantees.

You need to read the word NOVEMBER. Try one more time.

I agree that signing whatever street agent QB is available in November is not a good idea. Just cut Wendell or Connolly on Tuesday and sign whoever.

Well, there is precedent for it, although when they did this with Cassel, he at least had a full year in the system (although, admittedly, zero time as a starter).

I just can't envision a scenario where Feeley is the solution to any problem the Patriots might have.

Just my 2-cent's worth. Nothing more.. :)

I can't see the Pats going longer than 1 week without a veteran backup.

Image it's one of the upcoming games against Baltimore or Tennessee, it's the 3rd or 4th quarter, a tight game, and Brady hurts his thumb and just needs to miss a series or two.

In that scenario I can see having a Rookie UDFA QB as your only backup directly costing them the game. I want a veteran in that situation. Heck, do they still have Vinnie Testeverde's number?

Actually, I think if they bring in a veteran QB, it would be more to mentor Hoyer than anything else.

We have coaches for that function. If not, we should hire a coach. There is no reason to waste a roster spot on a mentor. If that's all you want, hire Vinny.

We don't know whether Walter was sent home with his playbook, and maybe with Robert Ortiz, to study and practice.

Why wait so long? Just a guess at this point based on when Testeverde was brought back the last time BB went with two QBs. Right now the team doesn't need the extra arm, Hoyer develops faster from getting all the #2 & some of the #3 reps in practice. Caserio can take scout team reps, as can Wilhite and Edelman and Stanbeck, this removes the urgency to acquire another QB now.

Bringing in a veteran in November gives that vet a couple months to get himself ready for the postseason; further, the bye week falls on Nov 1st, bringing the veteran QB in during the bye week seems the most adventageous to start integrating him into the offensive planning.

The vet does NOT know the system. Hoyer does. BB has said it takes a full training camp to learn the system, even for a vet.

Hoyer can run the offense for your series or two. His job would be not to turn over the ball. I think that based on game 4, BB has confidence in the rook's judgement for a series or two.

Were we to need a backup for a couple of games, I think we're screwed.
