to wait to watch the Patriots in a real game this year?

I get out of work at 9.

Am I the only one that didn't know this was Monday EVENING Football???!!

Who's idea was this?

I guess I'll just have to wait until September 20th to see my first Patriots game.

No VCR or DVR? or DVD Recorder?

I work at a restaurant and will miss every game this Sunday (and probably every Sunday afterwards until it gets really slow).

Then again I have a HD-DVR like any smart football fan.

Avoid the media all day, stay up until 2 AM watching the game, then see how my fantasy teams did = my Sunday night.

I still have a vivid memory of one of the food runners coming in on Sunday last year... his words still echo through my brain:

"Brady got hurt, yo."

****** Jets fan, too.

That's a good scenario in which to literally shoot the messenger.

I worked at the old (and lamentably gone) Tony's Villa on Route 9 in Newton when I was in high school and college in the 80's. During BC's Miracle in Miami, the place (except for the bar) was empty. Just as Flutie was under center for the last play, three people came in to be seated in the restaurant. As I seated them in the other room, I heard the roar from the bar.

I still harbor the resentment.

Even worse, I don't have cable!!!!

I make do in other ways: over the air HDTV, Slingbox, Netflix, sports bars.

I have no use for cable, and when things are on ESPN, I watch SlingboxHD or go to a Sports Bar.

In four years of doing this, I have never had a problem.

I guess there's a first time for everything.

Not Pats related, but for the Bills frantic comeback with Frank Reich against the Oilers, I was stuck at a relatives house for the afternoon, AND she didn't even have a TV. I am not a Bills fan, but I went to Maryland, as did Reich, so I had an interest in the game. It never occured to me to set the VCR.....Frank, by the way, also had the biggest college comeback against Bernir Kosar and Miami, at the time.

In 1986, I was in a Boston U dorm. Game 6 of the World Series (I had been to 2 AL playoffs and one WS game that year, the tix for ALPs were $15 each in the bleachers, $25 for World Series). We had 20 people in the room, there was total silence TOTAL in the last inning. Some joker walks in, the count is 2 strikes and 0 balls on Knight in the bottom of the 10th, and knucklehead says, "0 and 2 on Knight, that's unusual."

18 years later when the Sox finally won it, my old roommate calls up and says, I think I've finally forgiven the guy. Not me, I started losing interest in baseball for a variety of reasons, whereas in 1986, I was still a big fan. I'll never forgive that guy.

This is perfect for me. I have to work on Sunday.

.

The patsfans members decided to move it to BSPN MNF, and Tedy thought it was a good idea too, and Goodell said what the hell. Guess you didnt get the memo

Hurricane Katrina.....
When the Saints were stuck playing at the Giants to open the '05 season, they moved the game to mon night ( Jets played at home on Sun) so they had two games opposite each other on Monday night. They started one earlier and one later but there was some overlap. The ratings were decent so they play a doubleheader to open the season, one game starting 7 pm Eastern and the other on the west coast starting at 10:15 IIRC Eastern....

this game is ridiculously early. And they always make the 2nd game a piece of crap that no one cares about. It's always the Raiders it seems.

at 6pm central time, i basically have to leave work early to get home in time to get ready and watch this.

yuck.

WE HAVE A WINNER

I might be wrong, but I'd bet the farm that is the first time anyone ever used the word "onomatopeiac" on this board.

Takes me back to my days with the Jesuits at BC High.

Avoid the media all day

That's the hardest part.

Easy to control avoiding TV's, but can never control what random people walking by are talking about. I'd keep my headphones in if I were you. Good luck this season.

I wish every game could be on Monday at 7. I can do whatever I want on Sunday without worrying about missing the Pats game.

Is this a permanent thing with the MNF start time being bumped back an hour? I hope so because in my time zone (Atlantic), the game normally starts at 9pm. By the time the game is done it's closer to 12:30am. Not too fun when you have too get up early the next morning.

Not a fan of the 4pm PDT start. If the start was its usual time, I can get off early. This Monday...not so much. If I can avoid late afternoon meetings, I may take a 3hr break, then come back and finish work late. I'll see.

Regards,
Chris
