Big Surprise. I know everyone wants to give him the benifit of the doubt but would it have been a big stretch for him to pick us? He picked SD last year, and that was pre-Brady injury. He always picks on the lowside for us. He might not spew vitriol like Borges and Ryan, but I see smoke, and its coming from the same place every year. Just waiting for the flames.

He's still a good reporter in my book. I honestly don't much care who picks whom to win these things. It's all a crap-shoot and it's done for amusement more than anything else.

He probably just doesn't want to be viewed as a homer. Personally, I think the Ravens will go backwards, not forward.

Better defense than the Patriots and a coach and QB graduating from being rookies last year. Why not?

The Ravens are a pretty good choice if you're trying to avoid the easy picks. With their defense, you can certainly never count them out, and people do forget how good they were last year. They came pretty close to beating Pitt, and I think they would've beaten Zona. Their only real question mark is whether Lewis can bring it like he did last year (or will, now that he has his contract). Other than that, Scott's replaceable, Rex Ryan's no loss, and I think Ngata might step it up and become the best NT in the NFL this year. Not bad.

Gotta love the premise of this thread, though. Any sportswriter who doesn't pick the Pats to win the SB must be a hater with an agenda. That makes a whole lot of sense...

I'd put the Ravens up there with the favorites, sure.

Yeah I sure wish Mike Reiss was a total homer. Maybe then he would actually get some access to the Patriots.

LOL

Although I have started my own threads pointing out when a local guy picks against us, why do we expect the local reporters to pick the Pats to win the Super Bowl every year and if they don't we accuse them of having some kind of ulterior motive? I wouldn't pick the Ravens as my pick as an alternative to the Pats for a Super Bowl winner, but I think if I was more objective I might pick the Steelers as my Super Bowl pick. Luckily, I am an unbashed homer and can go with the Pats and ignore the question marks we have on defense.

Just once thats all Im asking. I think the team deserves it. I say the Ravens go 6/10.

They're a strong team, but I'm a) not hundred percent sold on Flacco or b) the running game. That said, if those two perform to expectations, they'll be up there with the Pats, Pitt, the Giants, Philly and (Favre permitting) the Vikes.

Last year the Ravens went 11-5. In three of those losses, their vaunted defense gave up game losing drives late. In their other two losses, Indy and NYG blew them out.

On the whole, it's not a wild or off the wall. Still much of glory comes from beating up on substandard offenses. That offense will have to improve dramatically for the SB to come to fruition.

they lost 3 times to the Squeelers last year so until they get past them I think the Steelers are better and since the Steelers haven't had to get past us for their wins I am sticking with my Pats though I might have picked them in 92 so I am a homer.

They will miss Bart Scott. Still a very good team.

Defense aging, lost D coordinator, still have no recievers to speak of...wild card contender but super bowl no way.

Love reading Reiss' reports, but I have a hard time picking the Ravens even making the playoffs this year. I think Cincy will be tougher this year and of course Pitt will be good. Not to mention the curse of the "sophomore" QB.

Not a bad pick. I like what the Ravens have done by continuing to draft stud defensive players and they finally got a winner in Flacco. I don't see a huge difference between the Steelers and the Ravens with Flacco +1 year experience.

I don't know... Roethlisberger won a SB in his second year.

I think the Falcons are the darkhorse team,Matt Ryan is the real deal

My choice to win it all would be the Chargers if they can mature enough to finally win it all and avoid the fact that Turner is their HC.

Of course the heart always hopes the Patriots win but I still have doubts about this defense, especially in the new revamped secondary - Brady and the offense will have to score more than 500 points I think for the team to get where they want to be- They don't have to be as good as the 2007 offense but they better be somewhat close.
