Probably a good chance we'll be switching tomorrow - so be aware that we could experience about 30-minutes of downtime during the changeover. I'm hopeful it won't be longer.

On another note - Thank you to many of you who have recently donated - it was key in paying the setup fee to get things moving as this ended up being much more expensive than I anticipated. I'll do my best to get things moving as I know many of you are waiting for your items from the ProShop - but I don't think it will be much longer.

But I can't express how much I appreciate your donations, because there's no way I could have done this on my own and it couldn't have happened otherwise. Believe me - it has played a large part in being able to do this while keeping the monthly charges at least somewhat within reach. The good news is I definitely think you'll be quite pleased with the results, as this is a monster two-machine configuration that exceeds even some of the boards out there larger than ours. I believe the days of DB errors are definitely over with

I've updated the donation numbers that we've received, along with what our new goal needs to be to pay for it all for a year. If you do the math you'll see what it costs per year to run this place.

Hey Ian, for a time last night I couldn't get on and kept getting some sign in box that didn't work to boot. What was that??

Thank you..

There was security setting that hadn't been set which allowed people to be able to see the contents of a directory - which could have been a big problem if someone picked up on that. Instead of showing a "Forbidden" notice it instead password protected the directory. The normal setting to correct that through Plesk didn't work, and instead prevented the regular index file from loading. I think there was about an hour last night where I tried to troubleshoot it because it kept prompting for a username and password each time I tried to load the main forum page. I finally figured it out - but it was very aggravating.

How do we see the donation numbers and goals? I've never come across that before.

Look at the ProShop box underneath the first post - I posted it there so people could see it...although now that you say you didn't notice it - I'm starting to wonder if I should move it....?

LOL. I see it now. I went immediately to the front page and looked around for a link. Then I clicked on the donate page and didn't see it there. I wasn't actually looking for it in this thread.

I guess I've gotten used to scanning over and ignoring advertising banners and now that I don't see those anymore, anything that even looks like one gets ignored.

Thanks Ian, appreciate the work, cost, and time involved here.

Looking at the specifications the database server alone will have double the mount of resources this current one has on its own - and checking it against some other site configurations I'm definitely looking forward to making the change over.

Just got an e-mail and it appears tomorrow is the target - I just don't know what time yet so I'll make sure I update you. In the meantime thanks again for all of your support, as I said in the previous posts it played a key role in getting this done.

I'm convinced this will fix the issues.............. Finally got off my lazy butt and joined. What can I say, I'm a cheap Scottsmen

Money well spent....... Keep up the good work Ian.

Is there a place where the server config and such are discussed? I'm a technical person, and even if I don't have anything to contribute, I'd be interested in the configuration and such.

*waits with baited breath for IAN to share the specs on the new toys we'll get to play with*......

We once had a member who claimed that once or twice a year in conjunction with his own personal annual fund drive, but he doesn't get to post here anymore...:D
