Is Seymour a lock for the Patriots HOF?

I screwed up my pick. The title of this thread and the actual poll question are different. I don't think Seymour is a lock to make the HOF, but I think he will probably make the HOF.

Coaches revolved game plans around him. We don't see the stats because that wasn't his role. He should be in our HOF at first eligibility. As far as Canton ... well if he had been a 1-gap tackle yeah ... but he wasn't a 1-gap tackle so who knows. He was among the best in his generation but he wasn't the best ... tough call .... he'll be there on the vote every year but there's been so many great players in the last 10 years who were more dominant and were featured by their teams.

Ehh! I accidentally voted "no" but meant to vote "yes". He'll be in the Pats HOF when it is all said and done. I don't think he will be in Canton unless something drastic happens with the Faiders, but he's a lock for the Pats HOF.

think about it he was so feared and respected by every one in the NFL that they picked him to go to the pro bowl over the guy's with all the big numbers

as far as the HOF go's i dont know he will play about 5 more year's so we will see

I'm surprised by the # of people voting "yes" here. The guy had 4 All-Pro seasons where he was amongst the best (if not the very best) in the game, and a few average and good-but-not-great years.

Not trying to denigrate a guy who is an elite talent, but to call him a lock for the Pats HOF is a stretch IMO.

I'm shocked at how many people voted no for Pats HOF. Saying he wounded up at Pro bowl just based on reputation is bit far fetched. For a while, he was simply unblockable one on one and let's not forget all the batted down passes(his wingspan is just ridiculous) and blocked field goals which he exceled earlier in his career. I assume a lot of people voted no by accident simply due to No being first option....

I just have to go with No. He was PART of a very good defensive line but I don't know if he'd be the first guy you think of when you think of Patriots defense during the Super Bowl runs.

I'd be far more likely to remember Bruschi first then probably Harrison.

Plus, there are rumblings he never really was part of the 'Patriot family' and just did his job and expected to get paid. IF there is any truth to it that could come back to haunt his changes of being a Pats HOFer.

No, I voted NO, because the question is will he be a lock. I don't think you can say he's a lock, when you look at DE/DTs over the last 50 years. People on this board tend to forget there were Patriot players before 2001

First, lets start with Seymours stats. We'll keep with the basics, because thats all anybody ever pays attention to anyway.
Richard Seymour: Career Stats
111 games
357 tackles/ 223 solo tackles
39 sacks
24 pass defensed
2 interceptions

Now, lets look at some past Patriots;

Garin Veris- played in only 88 games, starting half of them, and yet still had 36 sacks
Brent Williams- played in 121 games and had 43.5 sacks and 430 tackles
Julius Adams- sacks were not recorded for most of his years. But he had 19 sacks over the last 4 years of his 16 total years that he played for the Pats. I can't find any other stats on him at this time, but i can tell you, he's beyond Seymour.
Its too bad they didnt keep track of the stats back in the 60's, and 70's, the way they do now.

IF, Seymour was up for consideration for the Pats HOF, he's going to be in a waiting line.

You make an excellent point, there are others who are as deserving if not more deserving of induction than Seymour. But then again compared with those long since retired players when he is finally "eligible" for the team's Hall of Fame those guys may already be in.

Won't be long until those are ripped apart by the "stats don't tell the whole story" crowd chime in...
